Welcome

"We were deeply impressed with your humanity,  spontaneity, creativity and how you all

brought out the essence of each person's story."

Purpose

Playback theatre is a form of improvisation where the audience share personal stories that are then "played back" by a team of actors and musicians. We aim to create a welcoming space where everyone is heard and community unfolds.

Through Playback theatre we aim to generate social change through the subversive act of deep listening in a time of sound bites and political polarization. We do this by creating space for the marginalized stories, the lesser heard stories, and the stories that just need to be told.

Past projects and performances

We perform and offer workshops every 6 weeks, often in collaboration with community  organizations including the Irish Refugee Council and the Cork Migrant Centre. We are embedded in the Creativity and Change Programme at MTU.

Here's what past participants and audience members have said:

"I really appreciated both the generosity and skill of the performers and the possibilities that Playback theatre offers".

"(I got) A sense that all stories are important and have a meaning that can be shared with everyone

and that sometimes the meaning is unclear until it is given a voice."

"Loved how all the actors held the space and the great facilitation"

"Amazing! Relatable! Inspiring! Inventive"

"Excellent humour and authentic shared experiences"
