When we manifest our self-worth than we are manifesting Pride in your life.
Ref.: Rom.2:11 - For God does not show favoritism.
Ref.: Deut.10: 11 - For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.
We all are equal in the eyes of God. We are worthy as other person is worthy. God doesn’t regard rich more than the poor, they all are works of His hand. Sometimes, we fall into that sin, when we are rich and look down on the other, without our knowledge we proclaim this - that is again the PRIDE.
Ref.: Job 34 - Who shows no partiality to princess and does not favor the rich over the poor, for they are all the work of his hands?
If we are looking down on others because we are more righteous, then we are having sin of pride.
Ref.: Lk. 18:09 - To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable
Sometime we fall in Spiritual pride, we think we pray more than others, most spiritual than others, we value our prayers, and others even don’t go to Church.
Ref.: Lk.18:10-14 - 10“Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’ 13“But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ 14“I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt they will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
God is saying – don’t look down on others, if weu are looking down on others because we surpass them in virtue, knowledge, wealth and skills or any other reason – again we have fallen a victim of sin of pride. Actually we are mocking and insulting the creator. Everyone who makes himself great will be humbled and everyone who himself humble will be made great.
Ref.: Prov.17:5 - Whoever mocks the poor shows contempt for their Maker; whoever gloats over disaster will not go unpunished.
Ref.: Prov.14:31 - Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.
If we have looked down on others then we have allowed sin of pride to enter into our heart – we need to confess!
Ref.: 1 Cor.4:7 - For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?
We need to be careful not to take credit of God’s work in our life, as though our effort and your work that has done it.
Ref.: Ps.100:3 - Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
We belong to God and humble our self and not take credit of God’s work in our life. We shouldn’t say to our self that our power and hard work had gained us all the wealth that we have. We may have come to this position but shouldn’t take that to our self and stop giving glory to GOD.
Ref.: Deut.8:17-18 - 17You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” 18But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.
All what we have is loaned to us by God, even our kids don’t belong to us, they are His before they are ours. We need to be very careful to take care of them as they are entrusted to us.
Ref.: Dan.5:23 - Instead, you have set yourself up against the Lord of heaven. You had the goblets from his temple brought to you, and you and your nobles, your wives and your concubines drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand. But you did not honor the God who holds in his hand your life and all your ways.
All that we have is all given by God. God gave us natural skills and ability not to despise others. God gave us so that we can serve others. He is that kind of person and He wants that kind from us. To love one another as He loves us.
Ref.: Mt.23:12 - Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
He wants to live by this example to serve each other and love not of the duty, not out of completion, all that you are doing is out of love. We need to remember that He not only died for us, but also He is living for us this moment, so that we can enjoy the full life that He has in store for each one of us as He has promised each one of us.
Ref.: Jn. 13:3-5 - 3Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; 4so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. 5After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
Ref.: Jn. 13:12-17 - 12When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. 13“You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
We should get the eyes like that of Jesus! Jesus would look around for people who need help and reach out to them. Like the widow women in Nain. Like Jesus, we need to look around and step forward for help.
We should look not only to our own interest but also the interest of others, our attitude should be like that of Jesus Christ.
Ref.: Phil. 2:3-8 - Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. 5In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
6Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death - even death on a cross!
Jesus death was not for Him but it was for us, a man who died in our place. So, when we interest for own self then we are in for pride. We need to look in not only for our own interest but also look for the interest of others. God is telling us that we have to love one another because God love us, this is a condition we are asked to do it, it is not a choice that we have to do.
Ref.: 1Jn. 4:11 - Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
How to fight against the sin of Pride?
To-do-list:
1. Look into our self, to recognize if we have sin of pride. Do we have pride?
2. List down the area where we have pride. Pride will make it as though it is real, why should I? Pride comes from Satan, Satan will lie to us that is not a problem, he will tell us we are not being proud and only practical, why do we worry, why we have to give it, we are better off than anybody else, so we don’t even have to feel or say sorry, we deserve all the glory, we stood correctly. And it makes us feel hard for us to see the truth, when our own heart is lying to us and asking for our approval.
3. Remember we have used the entire gift what God gave us, which He has given us, to us only, which he gave to make us very servant of God. We must know that we have done only our duty to God and it is making God happy.
Ref.: Lk.17:10 - So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.
Remember a string of air around us and we got to set the alarm go. Very hard to humble when we are struck with pride, actually we are aligned to our self and very hard to see the truth.
Ref.: Jer. 17:9-10 - 9The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? 10“I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.”
We need help here and the help comes from God alone because it is He who searches the heart and probes the mind and all that He gives us is according to the deeds we deserve. The very first thing we have to do is to get down on our knees and pray. To fight the sin of pride and we should go on our knees and pray. We should pray and tell God like David did.
Ref: Psalm 139:23-24 - 23 Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
We have to like David ask God’s help, we are actually humbling our self before him and God will honour that. Word of God tells us that God resist the proud but gives grace to the humble. It not just a warning for the proud but it a promise to the humble, he says he will give Grace. If we humble before God in prayer, God will pour his grace upon us, while sin might be able to overcome us, but it is no match at all in before God’s awesome power. So Pray, Pray and Pray. First of all we have to accept that we have the problem of Pride and need help.
4. Fight it mentally – When God shows us the area and when we know that we have this problem, then we have to fight it mentally, change it mentally “It is ok, I can do it”. When we suddenly experience the hang of pride coming in us, recognise it for what it is?, expose it, tell our self that we aren’t going to succumb to this sin of pride, admit to our self that we been proud and ask God to forgive us in this area, it is an act of humbling our self before our Creator.
5. Tell our Brothers and Sisters in Christ that we are struggling with the sin of pride and ask them to prayer for us. Sometimes we hide our pride, we don’t want to know that we have pride and when somebody tells us we don’t want to accept it. We need to tell other and ask them to pray for us, by admitting that we are struggling with the sin of pride.
Ref.: James 5:16 - 16Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
If we have pride, we need to ask God to help us and ask a friend to pray for us to overcome it, so that we will have healing in our heart and we will win the favor of God.
Ref.: Prov.16: (Talks about all that pride will take us through)

You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me. 8The Lord will vindicate me; your love, Lord, endures forever - do not abandon the works of your hands.
Pride made Satan fall from heaven and man fall from Grace, the only cure is self-exhortation, self-humiliation. Jesus was humble at his birth. His majesty, son of God, chose to be born in stable rather than a palace, His humility of profession was that He chose to humble Himself to be a carpenter by profession, His humility of action was that He never did a single miracle for Himself, word of God says that He never supplied himself for place to lay His head. His humility in example was He washed the feet of His disciples and the supreme humiliation of all was the manner of His death, He humbled Himself even to death - A Death on the cross.
To conclude, Pride manifest itself in selfish motives, in exaggerated form we go, in low opinion of others, it leads to other sins against God. Pride is a sin that stands against God, its robing God of His glory which is due to Him alone. The only way to fight pride is by humbling before God in prayer and asking Him to reveal the hidden parts of pride in our heart and acknowledging and repenting of pride when we see it ourselves and to be transparent with our Christian family so that we can pray and set ourselves free from pride.
