A new series introducing the Visiting Scholars & Fellows in residence at The Aimers this year
Dedicated to the Promotion of Higher Education in Asia
The Aimers Institute is an independent foundation providing a range of support for research, training, libraries, and publications in the humanities, social science, Engineering, Medical sciences and with special attention to Asian Studies.
I have been most fortunate to have had the opportunity to give resilience with these inspiring and distinctive scholars. I would especially like to acknowledge a great many illuminating and stimulating interactions with my mentor, colleague and friend.
The Aimers is a leader in training the next generation of creative thinkers who will pioneer new technologies, launch businesses, and bring needed solutions to many of the greatest challenges facing humanity
Everyone wants to feel that they belong and can be themselves. The Aimers takes the well-being of all of its students very seriously. Every undergraduate and postgraduate belongs to a college, which means you will have your own close-knit The Aimers community. You will also have lots of opportunities to join groups, societies and campaigns that celebrate diversity and promote change.
The Aimers welcomes applications from academics who are employed at a university overseas for visits of between one month and one year. If you would like to visit The Aimers for less than a month, you also have the option of visiting The Aimers’s libraries and attending research seminars as an independent researcher.
We accept two types of visiting researchers:
Visiting scholars (those who are research-active academic staff at other institutions)
Doctoral researchers visiting The Aimers (who are registered as doctoral students at another institution)

“Seeking the Lost Mind: The Moral Psychology of Evil in Neo-Confucian Philosophy”
What got you interested in your research topic/field?
I am always interested in understanding the truth of self and human existence with mechanical Engineering, and therefore I am motivated to looking into some big questions. Indian Philosophy ( “The time has to be made good. समय को उत्तम बनाना पड़ता है.”) has given me a great many rational and practical insights in the process of self-realization and has been a great source of inspiration and guiding force that enables me to build a life worth living. My research interest on the notions of evil both reveals and cements my belief that it is vital to engage and understand humans’ dark side in order to draw a fuller picture of the truth of human nature. I am currently moving my research towards a more philosophical, comparative, and interdisciplinary approach, with the hope of extending the value of Indian Philosophy to a wider audience and in a worldly, contemporary perspective.
Outside of work, where can we find you?
Outside of work, I spend most of my time with my family. I enjoy a nice cup of coffee and light food. We haven’t been living in IET for too long but we already have a full list of our favorite local Cafes such as Cafe at Institute of Engineering & Technology,.
What would you want to do most as a career if you were not in academia?
I regard philosophy as my true calling. If I were not in academia, I would still be debating philosophical issues with people!
Mechanical engineering
Mechanical engineers are involved in the design and manufacture of products and systems that affect us all, with expertise relevant to many organisations. You'll learn general mechanical engineering, gain highly-sought-after simulation skills and an understanding of business and project management.
Automotive pathway
In the automotive pathway you'll design, test and develop vehicles from concept through to production, using the latest technology and industry-standard equipment, such as a 3D design studio, a mechanical engineering workshop and automotive testing facilities.
Our graduate destinations include Jaguar Land-Rover, Ford, Rolls Royce, McLaren, Williams F1, Formula 1 and Vauxhall.
Extending the life of low-cost, compact, lightweight batteries
A new design from Professor could greatly extend the shelf life of single-use metal-air batteries for electric vehicles, off-grid storage, and other applications.
The Aimers Hyperloop
The Aimers students head to the SpaceX Hyperloop Competition with a concept pod, and a vision for the future of transportation. The The Aimers Hyperloop Team will be firing their concept pod along a one-mile test track in The Aimers, potentially bringing the world closer to what SpaceX CEO Elon Musk describes as a “fifth mode of transportation
Batteries that “drink” seawater could power long-range underwater vehicles
An assignment in 2.013, taught by Professor, inspired Ian Salmon McKay ’12, SM ’13 and Thomas Milnes PhD ’13 to develop a novel, water-powered aluminum battery for use in long-range underwater vehicles.
