A Real Yaz Page

Just a place where I can keep some of the Yaz stuff I've collected for viewing, (mostly cards of course). I've also included a Yaz want list. It's at the bottom of page two. Yes, page two, I now have split the Yaz Page into two pages to hasten up the loading of them. The split is roughly at Yaz's retirement year of 1983 but a couple of oddities that should be on this page may have slipped over on to page two.

1960 Topps (Rookie card)                                                       1960 Topps #148 back

The 60 and 61 cards appear to be paintings. The same one too by golly!

1961 Topps                                                    1961 Topps #287 back                                       1962 Topps                                                     1962 Topps #425 back

Great looking '62 card here with Yaz holding the three bats.

1962 Topps Baseball Bucks                                                                              1962 Topps Baseball Bucks un back

Interesting subset for Topps in 1962.

1962 Jello #61                                                                          1962 Post/Canadian #61                                                         1962 Post #61

Post and Jello jumped into the baseball card business in 1961. Yaz's first cards appeared in 1962. Backs are blank. The regular Post is more of a close up of the same photo.

  1963 Jello #80                                                                       1963 Post #80

No Canadien Post in 1963 just the Post and Jello. The Jello is a bit shorter than the Post.

1963 Topps                                                      1963 Topps #115 back                                             1963 Topps Peel-Off                                       1963 Topps Peel-Off back

The '63 and '64 Topps cards are the same but they are photos, not paintings like the                 The 1963 Topps Peel-Offs were an insert in packs. Another variation has '60 and '61 cards.                                                                                                                                  a blank back.

1963 Fleer                                                       1963 Fleer #8 back                                          1964 Topps Batting Ldrs                              1964 Topps Batting Ldrs #8 back                                                                                                                                                             Yaz/Kaline/Rollins

Yaz was included in Fleer's little jab at the baseball card market.                                     Yaz made it to the Topps leaders cards when he won the AL batting title in '63.

    1964 Topps                                                 1964 Topps #210 back                                           1964 Topps Sox Sockers Yaz/Schilling         1964 Topps #182 back

Same photo as the above 1963 Topps card.                                                                            He also got onto a Topps special card wtih Red Sox second baseman Chuck                                                                                                                                                            Schilling.

1964 Topps Giant                                                                    1964 Topps Giant #48 back

This is a great looking photo.

1964 Topps Stand-Up                                                                                                               1964 Topps All-Star Coins                            1964 Topps All-Star Coins # 134 back

The 1964 Topps Stand-Ups were die-cuts included  in baseball card packs.                       Another of the Topps pack inserts                                                                               The backs were blank.   This 1964 Topps Stand-Up remains my favorite                                                                                                                                                                   gift from an OBC member ever. Mike Diamanti graced me with this card.

1965 Topps                                                      1965 Topps #385 back                                        1965 Topps Embossed                                     1965 Topps Embossed #1 back

I really like this picture.                                                                                                           The 1965 Topps Embossed set was another Topps insert. Not an extremly                                                                                                                                                                well liked one though.

1965 Topps Red Sox Team                                                     1965 Topps Red Sox Team #403 back

The 1965 Topps Red Sox Team card would be the first to show Yaz, (if you can pick him out, you're pretty sharp). His first card was in 1960 but his his first year with the Red Sox roster was 1961. Topps had team cards then. The 1959 team card was different from the 1960 team card. The team card in 1961 however, was the same as the one issued in 1960. So was the 1962, 1963 and 1964. So, all those team cards showed players from the 1960 team, of which, Yaz was not a part. This team card picture lasted 3 years, '65. '66, '67. There was no '68 or '69 Red Sox team cards and the 1970 one was a new one.

1966 Topps                                                      1966 Topps #70 back                                      1966 O-Pee-Chee                                             1966 O-Pee-Chee #70 back

One of my favorite Yaz cards. O-Pee-Chee gets into the game with an identical, except the CR on back, card.

1966 Topps Batting Leaders Oliva/Yaz/Davalillo                1966 Topps Batting Leaders #216 back

This card did not make it into the O-Pee-Chee set.

1966 Topps Red Sox Team                                                      1966 Topps Red Sox Team #259 back                                      1966 Topps Rub-Off

Same photo as 1965. Also did not come in the O-Pee-Chee set.                                                                                             The 1966 Rub-Off was a pack insert

1967 Atlantic Oil Play Ball Game Card       1967 Atlantic Oil Play Ball Game Card     1967 Atlantic Oil Play Ball Game Card     1967 Atlantic Oil Play Ball Game Card                                                                           (rules back)                                                                                                                          (photo back)

The Atlantic Oil game cards had two different backs. One had the rules to the game and one had the bascball photo and Atlantic & MLB logos.

1967 Topps                                                       1967 Topps #355 back

The 1967 Yaz card as well as the Red Sox Team card, below were numbered too high to get into the O-Pee-Chee sets which printed only the first couple of hundred or so of Topps cards at this time.

1967 Topps Red Sox Team                                                    1967 Topps Red Sox Team #604 back

Surprise! It's the same photo as 1966 and 1965.

1967 Topps Pin-Ups

Tough to find in nice condition.

1967 Dexter Press Premiums                                                                                                  1967 Dexter Press Premiums #DT-22225-C back

The Dexter Press Premiums are very high quality photo cards.

1968 Topps                                                      1968 Topps #250 back

Yaz won the Triple Crown in 1967 so naturally, he shows up on a few Topps cards. O-Pee-Chee's number cut off was too low to have a regular card of the Triple Crown winner.

1968 Topps Batting Ldrs Yaz/FRobinson/Kaline                1968 Topps RBI Ldrs Yaz/Killebrew/FRobinson                  1968 Topps HR Ldrs Yaz/Killebrew/FHoward

Yaz landed atop all the AL offensive leader cards in 1968.

1968 Topps Batting Leaders #2 back                                  1968 Topps RBI Leaders #4 back                                             1968 Topps Home Run Leaders #6 back

Let me just use this space to lament about the low quality rendering back photos I get from my scans after they get resized to fit this page. I'm not tech enough to figure out the fix.

1968 O-Pee-Chee Batting Leaders                                           1968 O-Pee-Chee RBI Leaders                                                                                                              Yaz/F.Robinson/Kaline                                                           Yaz/Killebrew/F.Robinson

I am still missing the O-Pee-Chee Home Run Leader card.

1968 O-Pee-Chee Batting Leaders                                    1968 O-Pee-Chee RBI Leaders                                                                                                                                    #2 back                                                                                    #4 back

This is the actual color of the O-Pee-Chee backs in 1968. Rather ugly.

1968 Topps World Series Game 2                                         1968 O-Pee-Chee World Series Game 2                                1968 Topps Yastrzemski All-Star

O-Pee-Chee did present a World Series subset but there was no Yaz All-Star card.

1968 Topps World Series Game 2 #152 back                       1968 O-Pee-Chee World Series Game 2 #152 back            1968 Topps Yastrzemski #369 back

A lot of my O-Pee-Chee cards are miscut. Probably the Canadiens are keeping the good ones for themselves. Other All-Star cards have other puzzle pieces of  Yaz's body. Yaz's All-Star has his mug so I'll not put the rest of them on the page.

1968 Topps 3rd series ckl 'the scores'         1968 Topps 3rd series ckl 'the scores'           1968 Topps 3rd series ckl 'your scores'       1968 Topps 3rd series ckl 'your scores'                                                                         #192 back                                                                                                                                  #192 back

Two Topps checklists with wording variation in the ad box.

1968 O-Pee-Chee 3rd series ckl                  1968 O-Pee-Chee 3rd series ckl #192 back               1968 Topps Game #3                                          1968 Topps Game back

There is no variation of the O-Pee-Chee back.                                                                        No O-Pee-Chee version of the Game inserts

1969 Topps                                                     1969 Topps #130 back                                     1969 O-Pee-Chee                                            1969 O-Pee-Chee #130 back

The O-Pee-Chee back had more differences from the Topps card than in the past.

1969 Topps Batting Leaders Yaz/D.Cater/T.Oliva                                                             1969 Topps Batting Leaders #1 back

Yaz won the AL batting title with a .301 Avg. Nobody else hit over .300.

1969 O-Pee-Chee Batting Leaders Yaz/D.Cater.T.Oliva                                                    1969 O-Pee-Chee Batting Leaders #1 back

The #1 card in the set gets to be in the O-Pee-Chee set.

1969 Topps Yastrzemski All-Star                1969 Topps Yastrzemski All-Star #425 back                                                             1969 Topps Decal

No All-Star card from O-Pee-Chee.                                                                                                                                        The Decals were one insert used in 1969.

The Topps Deckle has a blue facsimile autograph and blue info on the back.                     The O-Pee-Chee has a black autograph and a blank back and is unnumbered.

1970 Topps                                                     1970 Topps #10 back                                      1970 O-Pee-Chee                                              1970 O-Pee-Chee #10 back

Here is the Topps Yaz card and the  O-Pee-Chee version with the French/English text and dingy back.

The Topps and O-P-Chee Yaz All-Star cards.                                                                      A little French lesson on the back of the O-Pee-Chee card.

No O-Pee-Chee Yaz All-Star or Red Sox team card. There were no Topps team cards issued for the Red Sox in '68 or '69. Also, this 1970 version is a new team photo.

1970 Topps Scratch-Off                                                                                                          1970 Topps Scratch-Off inside

The Scratch-Off games were inserted in packs. The 1970 versions had black scratch boxes on a white background.

1970 Topps Super                                                                    1970 Topps Super #29 back

Big, thick cardboard, borderless photo and a back that copies the regular issue back.

1970 Transogram panel Yaz/Oliva/Stottlemyre

This is a cropped photo from the actual box containing figures inside and cards on the back. The front view is below minus cropping.

1970 Transogram panel Yaz/Oliva/Stottlemyre (full box)

This is what is on the other side of the above panel which is actually a complete box. Yaz is on the left and his Red Sox decal should be on his chest but is actually laying down by his feet somewhere. The figures are bubble sealed in there, so the label can't be put back on without breaking it open.

1971 Topps                                                     1970 Topps #530 back

The scanner to Yaz Page did not go well for this back. O-Pee-Chee did cover this card even though it is a fairly high number. I do not have one yet, unfortunately.

Yaz made it onto two AL Leaders cards in 1971. The Batting and the Home Run Leaders.

1971 Topps Boston Red Sox Team                                                              1971 Topps Red Sox Team #386 back

A new team photo 2 years in a row. A record I think.

1971 O-P-Chee Boston Red Sox Team                                                        1971 O-Pee-Chee Red Sox Team #386                                                                                                                                                                                                                                back

The inside of the 1971 Topps Scratch-Off were black on a red background. The outside, (back and front), were identical to the 1970 Scratch-Offs

1971 Topps Super                                                                                           1971 Topps Super #49 back

Topps copies their 1970 format for their Super set. Thick cardboard, no border on front and back mimics regular issue back.

1971 Dell Today's All-Star Team                 1971 Dell Today's All-Star Team                    1971 Dell Today's Boston Red Sox               1971 Dell Today's Boston Red Sox Stamps                                                            Team Stamps UN back                                    Team Stamps                                                  Team Stamps UN back

The 1971 Dell Today's stamps were issued in albums but there really wasn't anywhere in the album to put the stamps once cut from their sheets. There was an album for each team and another album for All-Stars. The Yaz stamp on the left comes from the All-Star album. It has 'Boston Red Sox' below his name on the back. The Yaz stamp on the right has no team name under Carl's name on the back. That is from the Boston Red Sox team album. It seems to be easier and less expensive to find the All-Star Yaz separate rather than still in the album, which seems logical, but the Red Sox team Yaz is harder to find single but easy to find intact in the album.

1971 Dell Today's Boston Red team album                                                   1971 Dell Today's BRS stamp sheet

Here is the Boston Red Sox team album as well as one of the two sheets of Red Sox players in the album. Several of the players are pictured in their uniforms from their previous teams. This scan size is obviously reduced.

These are inserts in the 1974 Topps and O-Pee-Chee sets. It may be a little silly to count them as Yaz cards just because his signature is on the card and I'm still debating the issue. I did see them listed on another Yaz list and I guess I just copy-catted.

1974 Topps Stamps panel (of 12)

I beleive these were sold in strips of 6 so I'm not sure how this 12 stamp panel was distributed. I could not get the scan to fit this site correctly. The left side is cut off some but not as much as seen here.

Yaz didn't make the earlier Kellogg's sets because of some contract dispute. Probably when Hostess came calling he figured he was missing out on some nice extra cash so he signed zee papers. The Hostess issue pictured here is the common variation. The scarcer variation has his position as 'Infield' rather than 'Outfield'. I am not an owner of that one yet.

1976 SSPC                                                      1976 SSPC #409 back

There is a variation in the 1976 Hostess cards in that a certain number of them, not all, came with brown ink on back instead of black ink.

1976 Linnett                                                                           1976 Linnett #102 back

These were distributed in the Boston area. The backs are blank.                   The Kellogg's card has a nicer picture in my opinion.                                                               They are unnumbered. Looks like an old Prom picture you want                                                                                                                                                                            to forget about.

There were 16 puzzle pieces issued with the Baseball Patches which were sold seperate from the regular Topps cards, 8 pieces for each league's puzzle. They had the Patches checklist on the back. The piece I have shown here is the one in which Yaz appears.
