The Villages Songwriters Club - One More Thing
The Villages Songwriters Club - One More Thing
The Villages Songwriters Club is an official group for residents of The Villages, Florida.
The Club was founded by Jerry Durbin in 2018. It was through Jerry's hard work that enabled the Club to get off the ground and build its membership.
When Jerry moved out of The Villages in 2020, he turned Club leadership over to Bruce Kanin (bk9net@gmail.com).
Our Club is intended to bring together people that are interested in all aspects of writing songs and welcomes residents of The Villages who range from the curious to the novice to the experienced.
Original songs can come in any shape or form, from a rough draft to something that has a band or is radio-ready.
A Club credo is "all songs are created equally". Here, there is no such thing as a "bad song". The Club respects people for their "personal best" effort in writing songs.
Constructive criticism is welcome - if not encouraged - but not demoralizing feedback. Everything is fair game re: feedback from the audience but only with the intent of helping the songwriter and others.
The crux of the Club is member presentations of their songs, ranging from in-person guitar solos to the playing of prerecorded songs (e.g., MP3s). That said, members are not required to present anything; however, as mentioned, they are encouraged to at least participate in discussions, including those in which a song is critiqued after it has been presented.
More recently we added a monthly workshop that allows songwriters to expand their horizons.
While conversations about any aspect of songwriting are fine, meeting participants are encouraged to discuss the two foundations of songwriting, i.e., lyrics and melodies. As such...
...it's all about the song.
