Showcase
In The Villages Songwriters Club Monthly Showcase, members share songs they've written and as well receive feedback from the audience on their performed songs. While songwriting topics may arise in discussions following each song, these conversations are more suitable for the Monthly Workshop (see tab).
Logistics...
Day: Second Thursday of each month.
Time: 1:30PM sharp. People can drift in as early as 1:00PM or so (meetings generally run until 4-4:30PM, accommodating approx. 15 song performances and a brief mid-meeting break).
Place: Seabreeze Rec Center, Clearwater Room (bring your Villages ID or guest pass)
Contact: Bruce Kanin bk9net@gmail.com

Performances
Each monthly meeting involves members volunteering to perform their original songs. Songs can be performed "live", i.e., guitar, ukulele, keyboard, or any other instrument; or prerecorded.
We typically have a music stand for holding performers' printed lyrics. Sometimes members bring guitar amplifiers that can be used by others. There is no piano or keyboard in the room. You are kindly asked to bring your own equipment for performing, including, if you have prerecorded music, a playback device with speakers. The room usually has two microphones.
Prospective performers: Don’t be nervous! The audience is unarmed.
Lyrics
As the audience listens to a performer's song, they can follow its lyrics projected on a screen in our meeting room. As such, anyone planning on volunteering to perform an original song is kindly asked to email Bruce Kanin (bk9net@gmail.com) with their lyrics (attached PDF preferred) well before the meeting date.
Lyrics sent to Bruce are stored here*. They are shown on an overhead projector during the monthly meeting. Lyrics should include the name(s) of the songwriter(s) who composed the lyrics and melody. (It’s never a bad idea to put a written copyright on your lyrics sheet whether it's backed up by a registered copyright or not.)
Attendees are urged to bring a smart device (phone, tablet, or laptop with web connection) to use as a backup in case the overhead projector fails and we are unable to display lyrics on it. You would then need to open lyrics found in this location using The Villages WiFi.
Also:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is permitted only for remixing of original songs. Remixing is defined as modifying an existing song, created by rearranging its audio components, adding new elements, and/or altering them to produce a distinct sound.
As an example, in our Club, the AI program SUNO can be used to take a song with original lyrics and an original melody to produce a remixed version. This is as opposed to having lyrics and/or melodies created by AI which is not permitted in the club. However, these songs can be posted on our Facebook page - just not performed at our meetings.
