Monthly Workshop
Monthly Workshop
The Villages Songwriters Club Monthly Workshop is devoted to the discussion of songwriting, including techniques, tips, and more.
Unlike The Villages Songwriters Monthly Performances Meeting which features performances of original songs by members, the Workshop geared towards lectures, conversations, and sharing of songwriting knowledge & experience.
The workshop format is typically as follows:
Introduction of new members
We "go around the room" and have each member discuss a song they may be working on; challenges they may be having; and topics they would like to see in the workshop.
Videos presenting well-known singer-songwriters re: their songwriting techniques and experiences.*
Live speaker talking about songwriting, e.g., someone with industry experience.*
Focus on well-known or member song to discuss it from a songwriting perspective (structure; rhyming; techniques; etc.).*
Discussion of a songwriting methods, e.g., use of a bridge; key changes; rhyming; etc.*
Demo of tools, e.g., Band in a Box, Garageband, etc.* (can also happen in Break-out period, below)
Break-out into smaller groups for collaborating; mentor-student; members trying out new songs; etc.
*Optional; may not occur at every workshop
See also Monthly Workshop Proposed Topics.
Members are strongly encouraged to provide ideas re: virtually all of the above. Can do this in person / email.

Collaboration can be a beautiful thing. Think "Lennon-McCartney", "Johnny Cash & June Carter", "Goffin & King", "Gamble & Huff", and "Procter & Gamble".
The Villages Songwriters Club encourages members to seek out others who are willing to collaborate on lyrics, melody, production, and more. The Workshop is an ideal meeting for this to take place or at least, be explored/initiated.
Collaboration is an especially important option for songwriters who rely on on AI to generate lyrics and/or melodies, which as mentioned, is barred from the Club. Songwriters relying on AI in this regard can seek out a member who is interested collaborating in order that both lyrics and melodies are from songwriters (not a computer).
