I suddenly miss my homeland so much,

while seeing a few strands of grass blown away from its home.

Like the beautiful but melancholic sunset,

ever hiding and showing in the vast sky.

How many rivers for the sorrow in my heart.

I recall an early dawn with silky sunshine

The gentle fragrance of the orchid’s still in my mind.

Love and longings for my homeland

are like the river flowing back to the sea.

O the green hills with the white clouds communing

Do you hear the storm of injustice rising and plaguing?

The hearts of the exiles are chilly, and desolate like winter snow.

Alas! Where to put to peace the wandering exile’s soul,

in this April when the song of everlasting sorrow

is rising in one’s heart…

The mournful notes, like a river of sadness

poured out lines and lines of misty teardrops…

O Motherland, I unwillingly had to become an exile.

Is this just my feelings or is it the sorrow of many a refugee

I still hear the wind  of compassion and sorrow

Rising in all directions…

O the wind’s rising… The wind’s flying….

A hundred years of human lifespan

with so many shifing world events

A day will come when we’ll meet again, my friends…

I let float the verses with the April wind,

sending my homeland longings

to the moon goddess’s realm.

White clouds fill the sky, white clouds of exile…
