Forty years, why does it not just stay in the Past?

A thousand nights of yearning for a street of yesteryear!

I haven’t seen you, Saigon, my love, for a long time since I left

I’m like a purple cloud floating in the silence of exile

For forty years, I have lived a wandering life to forget

Like an exiled prince alone at nights, sleepless

Sword had been sharpened but will it ever be put to the test

Do you not know our country in actuality no longer exist

To live free, many years ago, from the homeland, I had departed

And our love were then ocean-wide separated

My life here, without you, Saigon, is like half-dead

Without homeland, don’t think that living in exile is blessed

I will live to wait for the day the demons die

The patriotic anger in my heart still burns in the nights

I see the rain falling and I miss you so

Forty years, the rains still keep falling in my heart

Forty years, I promise to see you, Saigon

I cannot just write the diary of my love

A thousand years after, I would then be thought heartless

Let’s together write the history pages of our Motherland.
