There are 2 Safeguarding officers within the nursery; the Director and deputy manager however all staff have a legal duty to safeguard children. It is our legal duty to report to the Children’s Services Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) if we suspect that child abuse has been or is happening to any child in our care. The Nursery Manager is responsible for implementing our safeguarding policies. All team in the nursery are trained to recognise and understand the indicators of abuse and have regular training in our safeguarding policies and procedures. If a child arrives with any signs of bruising, bumps, cuts, etc, we will record this information, including a description of the injury and the cause. This system is in place to protect parents as well as the child. If we have any concerns regarding a child, we will always try to share them with parents. We will only deviate from this course of action if we believe that the child’s welfare will be placed at risk.
To ensure our own team are suitable to care for children, they undergo an enhanced DBS check prior to being given unsupervised access to children. Staff have thorough inductions with us before commencing work with the children, this includes training in safeguarding, health & safety, prevent duty and FGM. Team must provide two professional people to contact for a written reference, to which we would expect references to be of a high standard and not satisfactory. Staff are regularly monitored by the Management Team; team meetings and supervisions are held frequently. Staff are not permitted to have mobile phones in the rooms with children.
