On the 24th april 2024 NMS hosted the annual “Fashion Revolution Day” The Abitur Kunst LK amazed the entire school with their self-made, upcycled fashion line, that they modelled themselves. Between daring cut-outs, colourful patchwork and flared jeans, one couldn’t decide where to look first. With help of the designer Wilfried Pletzinger the Kunst LK has truly outdone themselves. Especially regarding the current state of the Planet; fast fashion as a result of capitalism, it is important to be informed about the impact of fast fashion, as it has revolutionised the way we consume clothing.
Fast fashion offers trendy, inexpensive garments in seemingly endless amounts and at a fast pace. However, behind the allure of cheap prices and ever-changing styles lies a complex web of environmental, social, and ethical concerns.

One of the most pressing consequences is its environmental impact. The production of fast fashion garments often involves the extensive use of natural resources, such as water and energy, as well as chemicals for dyeing and processing fabrics. This contributes to pollution, deforestation, and greenhouse gas emissions. As well as this, fast fashion perpetuates a culture of disposability, where clothing is viewed as temporary and easily replaceable. This leads to staggering amounts of textile waste, as garments are discarded after only a few wears, filling landfills and further harming the environment.
Another shocking consequence is unethical labour practices in garment-producing countries, where workers endure long hours, low wages, and unsafe working conditions.
In order to improve the issues surrounding fast fashion, multiple approaches can be taken. Consumers can make a difference by opting for sustainable and ethically produced clothing, supporting brands that prioritise transparency and fair labour practices. Not only this, but buying second hand clothing is also an incredibly sustainable option. A creative approach as shown by the students of the Kunst LK. Therefore, we should all value this exemplary behaviour, and work on making more sustainable fashion choices.
