The following is a revised handling for "Life is One Great Dance".
1. Run through the pack and remove the Kings and Queens—discard the rest of the deck. Arrange the face-up packet with Kings on top of the Queens as follows: QC-QS-QH-QD-KS-KH-KD-KC (face card).
(The way to remember the above set-up is to arrange the Kings so they mirror the Queens, then swap the KD with KS.)
2. Spread to show the cards, then close the spread and catch a break under the first Queen (5th card). Lift off the top 5 cards, apparently the four Kings, and flip the remaining 3 cards face down, then flip the Kings face down on top.
Push off the top two cards—take them with your right hand—flash the face card, then drop the pair face down on the table. Push off two more and flash both faces before dropping them onto the first pair on the table, "Each King is looking for a wife to be his Queen," you say.
Turn the remaining 4 cards face up and carry out a Jordan Count, saying, "Each Queen is looking for a husband." Turn them face down. Now pick up the Kings and drop them on top of the Queens.
3. "Suddenly, the Kings made their move." As you say this, pull off the top and bottom cards together, then slap the remainder on top. This is basically a Slip-Cut of the top card to 2nd bottom.
Now turn over the cards a pair at a time showing four perfect matches.
This is much the same as the original. However, there are a few additional refinements. The shuffle has been modified from a 2 x 4 to a 3 x 3. I've also removed the showing of the unmatched pairs after the shuffle. I feel this is unnecessary because you next show that they don't match anyway.
4. Pick up the pairs forming one pile so that the reds and blacks lie together, e.g., King/Queen of Hearts, King/Queen of Diamonds, King/Queen of Spades, and King/Queen of Clubs.
You now divorce the couples by Overhand Shuffle as follows :
Run 3 singly, then throw the balance on top. Repeat two more times. Note: you can still use the 2 x 4 here. Just don't run a single card at the end.
5. Spread the cards face down between your hands, saying, "I think I gave them a good shuffle, which means that the couples are probably divorced now. Let's see." Close the spread catching a break under the top three cards.
A) Triple Lift to show a King. Name this card, then turn the triple face down and deal off the top card onto the table. Now turn over the top card to show a Queen of a different suit. Deal this card face up below the face-down King.
Spread the cards again, saying, "Three couples remain." As you close the spread, catch a break under the top three cards.
B) Again, Triple Lift to show a King. Name this card, then turn the triple face down and deal off the top card onto the table. Now turn over the top card to show a Queen of a different suit. Deal this card face up below the face-down King.
C) Repeat B).
This leaves you holding two face-down cards. Tap each couple with this final pair, then slowly turn over each face-down card to reveal a perfect match, finally turning the pair in hand to conclude—snapping them apart so.
