The Marlowe Singers are joined by our passion to sing and perform, we are the only Chamber Choir in Gravesham and were founded in 1982 by Peter Marlowe.
We are a ladies chamber choirm singing SSA & SSAA arrangements.
We have regular concerts and take part in community events and have sung with local orchestral groups.
The choir had it's 40th anniversary in 2022 and is the musical institution of Gravesend, all members come from the Gravesend and surrounding areas..... Join Us!
We have appeared in the past in a film as part of the BBC Documentary series "When I get older". We have also been featured on Radio Kent and in The News Shopper, This is Local London and The Medway Times.
Our Musical Director - Adrian Connell
Our current musical director is Adrien Connell, who was previously the conductor for the Ruskin Choir in Croydon.
Adrian graduated in 1987 with a joint BA honours degree in English and Music with a major in composition and conducting. Professionally he has always worked in music publishing. However Adrian has always enjoyed making music and has enjoyed both playing and conducting a number of different ensembles. Adrian has previously worked as a freelance bass guitar player in a number of professional bands, and taught jazz improvisation for many years. Since 1991 Adrian has been involved with choral music and choral conducting. Adrian is also a published composer.
In 2024 we welcomed our accompanist Anita Leybourne after Jo Kemsley moved on to pastures new.
Anita has been an accompanist/ pianist for ballet schools, operatic societies, choirs, old time music hall and musical societies. She has also performed with an orchestra on piano and celeste. Anita plays keyboard with a marching band, a function band and church band. She has also been the organist for a church and synagogue. Anita plays violin with various orchestras ( most notably 50 years with the Dartford Symphony Orchestra). Anita plays piano for a vintag tea room.
