Primal

"Primal" is the perspective that focuses on behaving in natural states, free of the burdens of society or expectations.  Primal kinksters often report that their kink is about "letting go" of the burdens of modern life, and being "free" or "wild" or "natural."  To some, primal evokes images of running through a forest.  To others, it is a warrior or  a nomadic herdsperson.  To still others, it is simply about removing the mask they feel forced to wear for the rest of the world, and being the most authentic version of their self.  Primal is a practice that involves intense vulnerability while embracing the conflict between humans as natural and worth exploring.

PRIMAL FAQs

Q: Isn't "Primal" just pet-play?

Not usually.  Some see animalistic play as a subset of Primal, but it may be more accurate to say that many people have animalistic tendencies during their Primal scenes.  Pet-play that specifically refers to one person taking on the role of a domesticated animal, such as a pet dog or cat, is quite different than most primal scenes because it involves a set rule or roles.  Primal play tends to be avoiding those rules and specific roles, and heading more for passionate or instinctual headspaces and behaviors.

Q: I don't have a giant space for outdoor chase scenes... how do I do Primal at home?

Primal at home can be facilitated through body play, use of costumes, or specific scenarios.  For example, try setting up a scene where one person begins bound and is "captive," but must try to "escape" from the other person through struggling and fleeing.  Another example would be tying a ribbon around your and your partner's wrist or neck, and then trying to take it off each other.  The person who loses their ribbon first must pay a forfeit or submit to the other in some way.

Q: How do you avoid consent violations in CNC-type scenarios?

With all scenes, we suggest having both verbal and nonverbal safewords and signals.  Some nonverbal safewords include rapid tapping or knocking, dropping a held item, or a palm covering someone's own face.
