Depictions of kink activities and kink relationships in fiction.
Dark Olympus
by Katee Robert
The Dark Olympus series contains a set of stories about a modern city where old gods still hold power, and the relationships, intrigue, and dynamics that run it. A variety of kinks that change based on the book.
Kushiel's Legacy
by Jacqueline Carey
Phedre is an anguissette... a chosen of the god Kushiel, who gains pleasure from pain. Sold into bondage and recognized for her gift, Phedre must navigate politics, barbarians, and more than one person who loves watching her gasp.
Gor
by John Norman
Orbiting the sun directly opposite Earth, so it can never be seen, is the planet Gor -- where strength conquers all and women are the prize of the strongest. "Gorean" culture has inspired a whole set of kink play and words like kajira and camisk.
"Haremlit" refers to a genre of stories where the protagonist engages with more than one female partner. Many of the stories in this genre are traditional fantasy tales, but some carry kink elements as part of the dynamics at play. Many of these are available for free with a Kindle Unlimited subscription, and "spice levels" vary widely across different authors, from "FTB" (meaning Fade-to-Black, or no explicit scenes) to full-on descriptions of kink activities.
Warlock
by Daniel Kensington
Warlock follows Noah as he navigates a world of witches, and contends with both ancient rites and modern threats to his self and his harem. Light M/S dynamics, impact play, and control.
Mob Sorcery
by K.D. Robertson
Vince is an Enforcer: a magical bully-for-hire in a city of demons, elementals, and crime. And one of those crime families is the Lionettis--a mafia made up of wolfgirls. And they want Vince.
Spellheart
by Marvin Knight
A young man is transported with two friends to an area where magic is real and men are rare. Upon waking, he finds a thousand years have passed, his friends are missing, and elf girls need his help.
"Reverse Harem" refers to stories that feature one female and many males. There are many of these in the "Romantasy" genre which is rapidly growing in popularity, but not all of them feature kink dynamics. Here are some of the kinkiest ones, according to our participants.
The Bonds that Tie
by J Bree
The Bonds that Tie follows the story of a woman who runs away from her Bonded partners in an attempt to save them all. When she is returned, things have gotten worse, and relationships may be ruined forever... right when she needs them the most.
Blackwell Beasts
by Sadie Hunt
Her brother was murdered, and one of three men might have done it. Or maybe all of them... they were, after all, his best friends. Now she is moving in with them, and searching for peace, answers, and love. With maybe a little bit of healthy play.
Private Listing
by C.S. Berry
Would you sign over total control to a man? All decisions? He would change your life, your wardrobe, your house... and you would get the best sex you've ever had. That if it wasn't one man... but four?
We love a spicy graphic novel! There are some that do an excellent job of portraying kink relationships and dynamics, as the core subject. There are others that touch on many of these subjects, without it being too central to the plotlines.
Sunstone
by Stjepan Sejic
Sunstone tells the story of a young woman exploring BDSM and her domme, as well as the places they visit, scenes they create, and outfits they wear. A direct look at both the positive and negative side of BDSM communities, with great art.
MA3
by Pixie Trix
Menage a Tois, or "MA3", is about a shy comic-lover living in Montreal, and all the shenanigans that he encounters when a sex-loving free spirit moves in. Definitely a comedy, with kink elements woven throughout.
Norse
by James Lemay
Norse is a violent sex-driven epic about Vikings, the English, and a heavy dose of spiritualism and religious imagery. Kinks include domination, heavy bondage, impact, and more.
Here are some recommended movies and shows from our participants.
An office worker accidentally receives a package intended for a colleague -- and it is a bondage dog collar. They explore the basics of kink together in a light-hearted Korean film.
A noir-thriller with dark elements and an emergent kink dynamic, as well as a few bondage scenes. The energy between the two main characters is the draw to the film and why it is something of a cult classic.
How to Build a Sex Room is a Netflix non-fiction series that follows an interior designer as she designs kink-friendly spaces for her clients. Great for ideas on kink spaces and a look at different aspects of kink in real life.
