Welcome to the website of the HAPi project, we will detail here all the facets of our varied project The project was set up in 2014 by John Spiteri a social work LAC, Nikki Kershaw a parent of a young man with learning disabilities and Chris Briggs a service user at the Katharine Elliot Centre based at Howdenbank in Hawick. We are a registered charity and seek to offer those who are disadvantaged a place where peer support is encouraged and assistance can be sought.
Our primary focus is to help those who suffer a learning disability or mental health issues improve their self esteem and increase their social skills by means of team working in a structured and supported work environment. We also take people from criminal justice, the elderly and those who are suffering financial or other hardship. We currently have around twenty volunteers. We receive no government funding and rely entirely on charitable grants, donations and self funding. Please browse our site and see just what we get up to.
With regard to our commercial services we do not operate on the usual capitalistic blueprint of maximising profit as our goal, we simply aim to provide a good service that gives us some return in order to keep our project going. The people of Hawick and other Border towns have been very kind to us and we cannot thank you all enough. Your generosity is what keeps our project alive!
We now operate from two different locations- the gardening project is based at the Katharine Elliot Centre Howdenbank Hawick TD9 7JT run by John Spiteri every Friday afternoon. our bike recycling project is based at the Core building unit 2 Carnarvon street Hawick and our opening hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday 09.00 - 1400hrs other times can be arranged by appointment. Our contact details are on the contact pages on this site.
