It was never our intention to move into bike recycling but after a few kind citizens of Hawich handed in a few bikes for us to sell to boost our funds we saw an opportunity to provide people with low cost and reliable bikes at a very reasonable cost, we were hooked. The great thing about bike recycling is the range of tasks that allow volunteers of all abilities to get involved in making the final product. It soon became apparent that this aspect of our project was going to grow quickly and so it was. From two to three bikes a month we have this year(2020) from March sold over one hundred and fifty bikes giving our volunteers a taste of commercial working not to mention giving the public an opportunity to take more exercise using our bikes.
We also carry out routine servicing or specific repairs asked for by the customer and will always give you an estimated cost prior to work being carried out. If having your bike in for repairs leaves you without transport you can make use our loan system where we provide you with a replacement bike at no cost. We can also supply a paint refurbishment service on some bikes just ask and we will advise you on the options open to you. Similarly if electroplated parts on your bike are sufferring from corrosion we can restore that finish.. Want Gold plated nuts and bolt heads or handlebars - no problem just ask for an estimate.
At our prices for fully tested refurbished bikes most people simply want to buy it there and then. However, if you just want a bike for a few weeks we can hire one out to you at a reasonable cost. If you want to customise your bike we can assist you in this, simply bring your bike down to the KEC Monday/Tuesday/Friday 08.30 15.00hrs and tell us what you would like done, we always go the extra mile to deliver on your wish. We operate a no quibble refund/exchange programme for 14 days after purchase so you have no worries if you feel your bike is not for you. As with all the services we offer we want you to be happy and go out of our way to make that the case.
We are always delighted to receive donations of bikes (this has been a record year for bike donations) and in about 98% of cases we recycle them giving someone affordable reliable transport. Bikes that due to corrosion or mechanical damage that cannot be recycled are stripped of all usable parts and the remainder is disposed of at council recycling plants. This way we save valuable components and ensuring what is left is again recycled avoiding landfill.
