We created this website to serve as a comprehensive resource and hub for our community, particularly those interested in integrated or interdisciplinary approaches to real-world challenges like those found around the Great Salt Lake. It's designed to bring together individuals passionate about exploring diverse perspectives and solutions. Our goal is to provide a platform where people can access valuable information, courses, and discussions that promote cross-disciplinary thinking and problem-solving, including topics related to environmental conservation, water management, and regional development around the Great Salt Lake. By fostering collaboration and sharing knowledge, we aim to empower individuals to address complex issues, including those impacting the unique ecosystem and communities surrounding the Great Salt Lake, with innovative and holistic solutions.

Scott Abbott

I’m Scott Abbott, Professor of Integrated Studies, Philosophy and Humanities. As we have developed this site focused on Great Salt Lake, I have learned even more about the lake than I had imagined. Bryan Arbon

I'm Bryan, the one who helped set up this website, and it's been a pleasure getting to know the Great Salt Lake better through this project alongside my colleagues. In my free time, I cherish moments spent with family and friends, listening to music, and exploring new experiences.

One of my fascinations is with lighthouses, and although the Great Salt Lake doesn't boast one, I've always imagined how captivating it would be to have one gracing its shores. Even without it, the lake's natural beauty never fails to inspire awe and wonder.

Lindsey Baker

My name is Lindsey Baker. I am an integrated studies major with an emphasis between mathematics and Russian studies. In my free time I to knit, crocket, sew, embroidery or paint.

Abigail Brown

Abigail is a massive lover of Utah and all things nature. She has fallen in love with the Great Salt Lake and hopes everyone can find the beauty behind the flies. Abigail is an integrated study major studying anthropology and French, and she's grateful to have the opportunity to step outside her comfort zone with topics like this.

Xauntal Clawson

Hi there! I'm Xauntal, an integrated studies major at UVU. When I'm not reading a good book or trying to capture a stunning landscape on camera, I'm volunteering with local youth volleyball teams. Like many at UVU, I'm passionate about learning new things and giving back to the community. The Great Salt Lake's unique ecosystem has always fascinated me, and I'm excited to share that fascination with others through this website.

Im Hannah, I have deeply enjoyed getting to know more about the Great Salt Lake. I am currently a junior at UVU majoring in Integrated Studies. I love to travel and meet new people.

Tamerah Dorner

My name is Tamerah, I am a student at Utah Valley University studying Communications and Data Analytics. I love music, meditation and exploring nature. The beautiful things in this website expand and explore each of the ways we have connected to The Great Salt Lake. I hope that our work provides inspiration and wholehearted calls to action in this crisis. As a response to this call I wrote a poem, to highlight how Nature is our Home. May we continue to remember and deepen our connection to our surrounding environments to preserve and protect it.

Maddie Francom

Maddie is studying Business Management and Business Technology Information at Utah Valley University. She is a full-time student and works full-time. Maddie is an autodidact and loves to learn just about anything and everything. In her spare time she loves going on walks, mountain biking, working out, listening to audiobooks/podcasts and spending time with family and friends. Maddie plans on traveling when she graduates and has more time.

Cal Fuller

Cal Fuller is a student at UVU focusing on data analytics and computer science. They are motivated by the impact data can have on real people and are interested in exploring ethical data practices. Outside of school, Cal spends their time coaching youth climbing classes, supporting their community, and playing outside.

Jasmine Hight

My name is Jasmine, and I have loved the Great Salt Lake since I was a young child. Swimming in the lake and capturing brine shrimp in jars were some of my favorite memories. I'm studying religion and family science at UVU. I enjoy meditation, kayaking and yoga.

Ashley Ipince

Hi!! I'm Ash, my contribution was getting photos from different photographers around the state of Utah capturing all the different forms of Love at the Great Salt Flats. For years families, couples and individuals have come to the coast of the Great Salt Lake to take their special gorgeous pictures, I wanted to bring them together in a collage to show just one of the great beautifies from the Great Salt Lake. My name is Georgia James. I live in Utah, but moved here from Hawaii about three years ago. My major is integrated studies with emphases in nutrition and music. I love playing the piano and being at the beach with my friends.

Lizzy Jensen

My name is Lizzy Jensen, and I am a student of religious studies and theatre arts in the religious studies program here at UVU. I love to do creative work in my academic life and I appreciate the opportunity to produce that on behalf of the Great Salt Lake. I am passionate about the purpose of religion in public life and I hope to see faith groups continue to mobilize around public issues they care about. I am not native to Utah, but I have come to love living in the mountains and near the Great Salt Lake.

My name is Austin Jex, I am currently studying National Security at UVU and will commission into the United States Space Force in 2026. I love all things SiFi and am always looking for opportunities to learn more about the world around us.

Bailey Vincent

Hi! I am currently studying history and Deaf Studies. I love spending time outside: rock climbing, mountain biking, swimming, really anything that gets me outside. I have loved learning about the Great Salt Lake. The lake is so beautiful and full of life despite its challenges. The lake has taught me so much about resilience and I hope this website conveys that to you!
