Dr. Gharagozloo is a neuroimmunologist and expert in multiple sclerosis (MS) experimental models. Her research focuses on understanding the mechanisms by which autoimmune inflammatory processes mediate demyelination and neurodegeneration in MS. This is an extremely important area of research since the presently available MS disease-modifying drugs minimally impact progressive MS.
She closely collaborates with the neurologists and MS experts at Johns Hopkins MS Center and the ultimate goal of her research is developing innovative treatments for neurodegenerative conditions like MS.
Swati is a recent graduate from Johns Hopkins University with a BS in Neuroscience and currently working as a research technologist at the Gharagozloo and Calabresi Lab after spending two years there as an undergraduate researcher. She is passionate about exploring the intersection of research and healthcare, especially with applications to translational neuroimmunology and neurodegenerative disease outcomes. In her free time, I enjoy dancing, traveling, or learning how to prepare new cuisines.
Omar graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor’s in Neuroscience with a concentration in Cognitive Science. He is on the pre-medical track and co-founded the Johns Hopkins undergraduate Chapter of the National Arab American Medical Association. He is deeply interested in the intersection between neurodegeneration and neuroimmunology with his first lab project investigating a therapeutic’s potential for remyelination. Outside the lab, Omar is a big sports fan closely following the Baltimore Ravens, Miami Heat, and Liverpool F.C. and is always looking to talk about last night's game.
Saahith graduated in Neuroscience from the Johns Hopkins Krieger School of Arts and Sciences. He is passionate about neuroimmunology and stroke neurology. Saahith proudly hails from Princeton, New Jersey, but has also come to love Baltimore as his second home. Outside of school and lab, Saahith is a wilderness EMT and Logistics Officer for Austere Medical Professionals in Frederick County, an EMT with the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department in Baltimore County, and a Scribe for the Trauma Service at the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. Saahith is the President of the Johns Hopkins Model United Nations Team and a TA for Neuroscience. Saahith is a lifelong wilderness enthusiast; he loves backpacking with his family when not in school; and has a special passion for kayaking, skiing, and (sometimes) snowboarding.
Arihant studies Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins with a special interest in the mechanisms behind neurological disorders. He aspires to become a neurologist and improve patient quality of life. As a member of the Design Team, Arihant is helping develop an accessible at-home tool for longitudinal monitoring of Parkinson's symptoms. He is a Freshman Senator and TA for the Applied Math Department who also enjoys working at the Brain-Computing Interface Society. Outside of classes, Arihant loves to play guitar, backpack with friends and family, and weightlift.
