As part of the MLMOP5900 Master’s thesis, students have the opportunity to participate in a four-week fieldwork stay in Cape Town. During the stay, students will gain insight into early childhood education settings in Cape Town and may conduct data collection or use the period for focused academic writing and analysis related to their thesis.
The stay is organised and facilitated by STADIO, and students will receive academic supervision and follow-up from supervisors throughout the period.
As part of the UTFORSK project, we offer co-supervision for students who want to include perspectives from South Africa in their master thesis. Students will be invited to join a supervision group consisting of academic supervisors from both STADIO and DMMH. This opportunity is particularly relevant for students working with comparative perspectives in their thesis.
The supervision arrangement can be taken independently of participation in an exchange stay; however, it is mandatory for students who take part in the exchange programme.
Further information is available by contacting the course coordinator for the master’s thesis.

The overall purpose of the Master's course "Resilience and Vulnerability in Children's Upbringing," is to provide students with a preventive approach to early childhood special needs education. It challenges students to critically view diagnostic terms and mapping tools while focusing on limiting risk factors and strengthening protective factors.
This is achieved by developing advanced knowledge in areas like healthy attachment and different theoretical perspectives on social and emotional difficulties , preparing students to analyse children's vulnerability and resources in a relational perspective. The value is in training students to carry out measures in vulnerable situations based on theoretical and ethical judgment and to facilitate development at both individual and system levels.
As part of your exchange to STADIO, you will get unique practical training at Glenoaks School. Glenoaks has a multi-disciplinary team consisting of psychologists, occupational, speech & language, remedial and learning support therapists, as well as facilitators, classroom assistants and job coaches.
In 2025, master students from DMMH completed their practical training at Glenoaks. The school has since published an interview with the students, where they share their insights and experiences.
