Below you will find all steps you need to complete before you can travel and begin your studies at DMMH.
If you need help or have questions regarding any of the steps, please contact us at international@dmmh.no or Kerri-Lee Schneider (STADIO) at Kerri-lees@stadio.ac.za
Step 1: Upload required documents to your application in Søknadsweb
Go to your application in Søknadsweb, log in, and upload the required documentation under "My documents".
You must upload the following:
Copy of your ID/Passport
Letter of motivation. It is important that you include which age group you have experience with or wish to work with.
Confirmation of your English proficiency level (minimum B1)
Report of marks from all finalized courses
Step 2: Book your flights
Make sure you book your flights as early as possible, to get them as cheap as you can.
Step 3: Apply for VISA, residency permit and insurance
You must apply for a VISA, residency permit and health- and travel insurance before you travel to Norway.
Please see the list of documents to get started on your applications.
Step 4: Apply for a police clearance certificate
You must have a valid police clearance certificate in order to work with children during your practical placement
Your clerance can not be issued any earlier than 3 months before the start of your placement. This is required by Norwegian Law.
Step 5: Apply for housing accommodation with SiT Moholt
2 months before the start of your studies at DMMH, SiT (The Student Welfare Organization) will send you a booking code to use in their housing site. Use this code to book your apartment for your stay.
Most apartments are located at Moholt student village.
Step 6: Submit required documents to transfer of your scholarship from DMMH/UTFORSK
To transfer the scholarship from DMMH/UTFORSK to you, we must see receipts of the following:
Receipt of VISA application
Receipt of residency permit
Receipt of flight tickets
Bank information (IBAN, SWIFT-code and account name)
Submit these receipts to international@dmmh.no
You will receive the first installment of the scholarship once the above documents have been received. The second installment will be transferred after arrival.
Step 7: Packing list
Trondheim is known to have unstable and unpredictable weather. Make sure you pack well, and bring clothes and gear that will keep you warm and comfortable during your stay.
We recommend bringing:
Any medication you need for the duration of your stay
A warm jacket that is windproof
Rainproof jacket and pants
Rainproof shoes
Warm socks, gloves and a hat
Forgot to pack something? 🧳
Queen Maud University College has a equipment supply storage available to all international students. We have warm clothes, shoes, skis, pots and pans, jackets, bed linen and more.
You can borrow anything as long as we get it back at the end of your stay.
Step 8: Arrival and mandatory tuberculosis test
When you arrive at DMMH on your first day, we will have an introduction day where you'll be registered, get your student ID and learn more about Queen Maud University College.
A few days later, you will need to complete a tuberculosis test and chest x-ray at the hospital. This is a requirement to work with children in Norwegian ECEC institutions. A representative from the international office will come with you to the appointment, and make sure you find your way.
Please bring the following to the appointment:
Your passport
This appointment usually takes only 1 hour to complete, including x-rays. A few days after your appointment, the hospital will contact you about the results. If they are negative, you can start your practical training.
*If your test is positive, you may need further examination at the hospital.
Step 9: Dress code and etiquette
In kindergartens, children and staff spend a significant amount of time outdoors, and play is a central part of everyday activities. It is therefore important to wear practical clothing that is durable, keeps the body warm and dry, and allows for free movement. Clothing should be suitable for varying weather conditions and active play.
Apart from these practical considerations, there are no formal regulations regarding dress code in the kindergartens.
