The Vision for the elijah project

It’s a teaching resource hub for kids who need more than worksheets. It helps teachers build lessons around literacy, identity, confidence, and emotional safety — so children can read, write, speak, and show what they know without feeling invisible.

It started with Elijah, but it’s bigger than just Elijah. It’s for every child who has something inside them but hasn’t always had the words, support, or safe space to let it out.

The Elijah Project creates culturally responsive, trauma-informed literacy and SEL resources for inclusive classrooms, helping educators support students academically, emotionally, and socially.

A brief history

The Elijah Project began with one child’s voice.

Created by educator and mother Renée M. Barton-Rose, the project grew out of a deeply personal question: What happens when a child is bright, gifted, emotional, misunderstood, and still searching for the language to be fully seen?

As a mother and educator, Renée saw how easily children can be reduced to labels, behaviors, test scores, reading levels, or classroom challenges. She also saw something deeper: children often communicate long before they have the words. Their silence, frustration, movement, resistance, creativity, questions, and emotions are all forms of voice.

The Elijah Project was created to help educators and families listen more carefully and teach more intentionally. It blends literacy, social-emotional learning, culturally responsive teaching, trauma-informed practice, and inclusive education into tools that help children build confidence, identity, communication, and academic growth.

What began with Elijah became a larger calling: to create resources for every child who deserves to be understood before they are judged, supported before they are dismissed, and taught in a way that honors who they are.

The Elijah Project exists because every child has a voice — and every classroom should help them find it.

Where we are today

Today, The Elijah Project is growing into a literacy, social-emotional learning, and culturally responsive education resource hub for children, families, teachers, and schools.

What began as a personal response to one child’s voice has become a larger vision: to create tools that help children feel seen, safe, understood, and ready to learn. The project now focuses on building classroom-ready lesson plans, student activities, family connection tools, teacher resources, and inclusive learning strategies that support the whole child.

The Elijah Project is currently in its foundation-building stage. We are developing standards-aligned curriculum materials, literacy supports, emotional wellness tools, and resources for inclusive classrooms. Our goal is to support educators and families with practical, meaningful tools that help students build confidence, communication, identity, and academic growth.

Today, we are planting the roots for something bigger: a learning community where every child’s voice matters, every family is valued, and every classroom has the tools to teach with compassion, culture, and purpose.

The Elijah Project is still growing — but the mission is already clear: help children find their voice and give adults the tools to listen.

Social Narratives where they are the main characters to develop self awareness

Through their stories, students are placed center stage. They become the star and the audience.

Learning Through Play

Bounce Block was created to teach our kids through play. Renee learned at block parties and through neighborhood fun. Music is the motivator that will teach most children.

Bounce Block & The Bounce Block Kids

Auntie Noir is Renee's alter ego who leads the Bounce Block kids through multiple lessons through music and play. The energy was found at any block party & cook-out. Auntie Noir teaches vowels, consonants, shapes, colors, street signs, etc.
