The multi-position telescopic butt is similar in design to that of the M4. The name HK416 means compatibility according to NATO standards with stores from M4 and M16 — NATO-STANAG-DRAFT 4179 (M4/M16 Magazines). The latest version of the machine is called HK416A5.
