The Craftworkers’ Guild Jury & Standards Committee
1. Only current members of The Craftworkers’ Guild may apply to have their crafts reviewed by the Jury & Standards Committee. The membership process must have been completed and dues paid in order to be considered a current member.
2. Make sure that you have a copy of the document, General Art and Craft Standards of the Craftworkers’ Guild. You may also request from the Committee Chair a copy of the specific standards that address your area of crafting.
3. Review these documents closely, and consult with members of the Committee if necessary to ensure that you understand these requirements and how they apply to your crafts.
4. The Jury & Standards Committee meets to review crafters’ work by appointment only. General times that the Committee is available to meet with crafters will vary, and this information is announced at meetings and in messages sent to members. When an upcoming meeting is announced, you may contact the Committee Chair as directed to arrange for an appointment.
5. Due to the time and additional training needed to prepare new members to participate as crafters in Guild Fairs, there will typically be a cut-off date of approximately one month prior to a Fair for new members to meet with the Jury & Standards Committee. This cut-off will not necessarily apply to veteran members whose work already has been approved and who have already participated in a Fair.
6. Complete an Application for Standards Committee Review, and forward it to the Committee Chair, or if instructed to do so after notifying the Chair, bring it with you to your appointment.
7. Prepare your page for the Meet the Crafters book. Assistance or guidance is available from the Meet the Crafters Editor if you need it. Bring your finished page with you (or the information and photos you would like used on your page) to your meeting with the Jury & Standards Committee and give it to the Committee Chair at that time.
8. Prepare your craft items for presentation to the Committee. For new members and veteran members developing a new craft area, plan to submit at least 3-5 articles in each general area in which you wish to be approved; (e.g., knitting, wooden ware). If you have various products within that field, bring 3-5 samples of each; (scarves, sweaters, shawls).
9. Please arrive on time and well-prepared for your appointment. Late-comers or no-shows may forfeit this opportunity to meet with the Committee and have their work approved for an upcoming Fair.
10. You will have the opportunity to discuss your work with members of the Standards Committee, typically for about 15 minutes. Committee Members will evaluate your work against the Standards, and will likely have questions for you as part of the process. You may ask questions of them also.
11. After reviewing the items you have submitted, the Jury & Standards Committee will meet privately to discuss your work , decide if it meets applicable standards, determine if there are any changes or modifications needed, and identify any suggestions they may have for you.
12. The Committee will review its findings with you after they discuss your work and make their determinations. Work that has been conditionally approved pending changes or modifications may not be presented for sale until those requirements have been met. Crafters are strongly urged to consider any suggestions made by the Jury & Standards Committee, since these are intended to help your crafts meet Craftworkers’ Guild standards, as well as increase the item’s marketability, appeal and presentation in the Shop.
