Pish skipped down the streets of town, her eyes closed enjoying the Sun beaming on her hair and face. She was pleased with herself, with the work she’s done in her Sis’ name. A voice, low and slow, rang in her mind.
“You did not have to do that you know, it is going to kill our reputation.”
She keeps moving, just opening her eyes and responding,
“Oh shut it you, I healed one of them didn’t I? I don’t see what the big idea is Mis."
“This isn’t a game, that man’s life is probably gone by now, you saved his friend, why did you stop there?”
“Shouldn’t that be obvious?” She smiled, “I was just talking to that guy's girlfriend and he snapped at me, it wasn’t like I was gonna make a move on her or anything…”
“They were almost mutilated by goblins, and you healed the woman to full health. I understand we talked to them a few days ago, and sure he was a little rude, but that does not mean you can let him die." Pish stopped in her tracks and called out,
“That asshole had it coming! Speaking to someone as devine, as touched by Big Sis’ graces, he should have known how to speak to such a lady and let his woman be swooned.” People on the streets looked over at her, tilting their heads as if to say “who’s she talking to?” She glanced at them, smiled and waved, and kept going with her merry way. She noticed a bench near a fountain, birds pecking at bread crumbs and enjoying the day just as she was. When she sat on her bench, she sighed. Suddenly after closing his eyes for a moment he reopened them with a sour look. Shewing the birds away, he kicked his feet up, taking up the majority of the bench on his own and pulled a cigar out from his pouch. With a simple flick he lit a match, after holding it for a moment he flicked his wrist and lobbed the match into the fountain. He puffed and sighed with relief.
“That guy should be fiiine, he won’t die trust me. He’ll just be in pain and bedridden for a couple weeks.” Mis closed his eyes and shook his head.
“Even so, you know what our job is. How do you expect to enjoy a couple meals a day if we don’t have any coin?” No response. “Ugh you are impossible sometimes. Instead of spending our money on knick knacks and herbs, we should be putting it towards staying alive.” A voice blared in his mind, and he jolted in pain.
“You’re the cocksucker who’s splurging all the money on those stupid cancer sticks! Don’t talk to me about money, like you know everything.” Mis rolled his eyes, she did have a point… but regarding the cancer, if anything were to happen she could probably just cure it for fun.
“What do I keep telling you about yelling, that shit hurts!” Mis sat up and puffed again. “Also what’s with this outfit, you promised me I could wear pants.” Mis glanced down at the armored skirt around his waist.
“I did, I did, they’re just under the skirt. Are you saying I’m not allowed to be cute anymore? How do you expect us to be allowed into people’s houses if I’m not looking adorable?”
“Watch what you say. If anything happens to us because of your ‘marketing ploy’ I am going to be furious.”
“Ah shut it, I have no worries cause I know you’d take care of any sap who’ll try a move on me.” Mis glanced down at the morningstar on his hip, freshly cleaned from the past hunts he’s been on. The park was empty now, pedestrians seemed to have left, birds flew away. The only aspect of life was an artificial fountain bubbling water.
“Pish, just be careful please. I do not know what I would do if something happened t-” Mis felt a warm embrace, and as Pish opened her eyes she smiled innocently.
“C’mon Mis, you know that won’t happen. Plus I can’t have you being all aggressive either. We’re in the same boat here. And what’s this? Getting all sappy are we?” As soon as she finished her sentence, she breathed in and started violently coughing. Spitting on the cobblestones and lobbing the cigar into the fountain.
“You killed the mood.” She sighed, hopped off the bench and continued to stroll down the street. Humming a sweet tune and swaying her head back and forth.
