We've worked to understand the ideas in Valenzuela's text and framed our thinking about satire through the creation and discussion around a chart of the characteristics of effective satires.
For this final task on "The Censors," you will use your quick write from our analysis work to draft an essay in response to the following question:
What makes "The Censors" an effective satire? or if you feel that it isn't effective, what would Valenzuela need to do to make the short story more effective as a satire?
Use your text annotations and notes from our comprehension work and your quick write and feedback from your peer from our analysis work to help you draft your essay. Be sure to also refer to the characteristics of effective satire chart that we created during our analysis work.
Please watch the linked for video for a model of how to move from your quick write to an essay. As you watch the model, please take notes on what you see happening and what. you hear me say. You'll add your notes to our shared Jamboard. This will be a place that you can refer to as you draft your essay.
(Please note that you should use a model of the actual task with students, for the purpose of this sample landing page, we've used an abbreviated model based on the text, "Some fortunate future day" by Cassandra Clare).
