To combat the rising national and local infant and maternal mortality rates, suicide rate, and opioid addiction rates, as it relates to Black Women and Black Families by creating and maintaining safe spaces.
INITIAL FOCUS/GOALS:
The United States of America (USA), while having the most advanced systems and technology, has the highest rates for infant and maternal mortality in the developed world. Why?
It would seem African American families are driving these rates to be so high. Black women are dying more than 4x the rate of white women in some states for birth related reasons and black families are grieving over infants twice as much as white families. We must ask ourselves why such astronomical disparities exist? Usual risk factors such as socioeconomic status, lack of prenatal care, and pre-existing medical issues have shown to be irrelevant factors according to recent studies. This means that black families are suffering simply due to the color of their skin. Serena Williams, an African American Olympic Tennis player for the US almost died in childbirth and urges us to donate to organizations who are helping mothers and newborns. Also Judge Glenda Hatchett has been working tirelessly to raise awareness about preventable maternal deaths, after the death of her daughter in law. Many are coming into the awareness that something must be done to remedy this social/spiritual ailment . Lets not wait until a video goes viral and gov buildings are being burned down, as in the case of George Floyd, before we acknowledge the medical neglect and malpractice black families experience in this country as it relates to birth.
The Birth Guru Organization is working thoroughly to raise awareness of this issue and provide solutions that will make a lasting impact. We are holding quarterly meetings and yearly panel discussions all over the nation. We will also be hosting an annual March of Flowers (walk) every year as a part of our annual fundraising event. During our annual demonstration we ask the community to support us by marching with flowers and decorating their gardens/lawns with our flowers.
We plan to establish Sacred Grounds in each state. Each Property will include 2-5 acres of quality land on which we will build an Ecologically Self Sustaining Community Center/Temple, a Prayer & Meditation Garden, a Food/Herb Garden, and 3-7 single shelters(Earth huts) for birthing/private supplication/healing/rehabilitation.
Our organization is openly accepting new members, donations, volunteers, and sponsors to help us toward our mission.
