As part of our longer-term project, we plan to raise awareness and advocate for policy change by creating a resin and glitter sculpture to highlight the harmful effects of plastic glitter on our communities and the environment. We would like your help in collecting plastic glitter from across Alaska for our project!
Why help? It’s good for the environment AND the troop that collects the most glitter for our project will win a fun badge activity with our troop!
Chance to win a hosted badge activity!: We will give away three sets of prizes to the troop that collects the most glitter during each time period below.
First prize: Most glitter submitted between April 1st and May 31st, 2025
Second prize: Most glitter submitted between June 1st and August 31st, 2025
Third prize: Most glitter submitted September 1st and December 31st, 2025
Prize details:
The winning troop can choose if they would like to make lip balm or candles - we will provide the supplies and show you how! (If you are located outside of Anchorage, we will host the activity by zoom)
Our request to you:
Reach out to your teachers about collecting unused glitter supplies from their classrooms for this important project
You can also look for unused glitter supplies in your home, at your church, and around your community
Send all the glitter you can collect to us at:
Atten: Girl Scout Troop #436
Girl Scouts of Alaska
2000 W International Airport Rd Suite C-1
Anchorage, AK 99502
Please make sure you carefully package all glitter before shipping so it doesn’t leak into the environment and cause damage! Also, please include your troop number and where you collected the glitter so we can track our progress.
Fill out the form so we can easily track submissions https://forms.gle/HzPxinvPTdhaMD4v7
Please do not buy new glitter for this project – our goal is to remove existing plastic glitter and encourage teachers and others to purchase bioglitter alternatives that are safer for the environment and us!
Thank you for helping us make a difference!
