Hi y’all, I’m Ryan Wiebold, an EaturaVision team member who worked on creating the world of Eatura and the upcoming neo-medieval video game, The Bane of Demenya. Medievalism has had a special place in my heart since I was young. I was always fascinated with medieval stories full of danger and courageous acts, and I was mildly obsessed with the Medieval Times dinner show. I knew I would find a way to incorporate medievalism into my future. Furthermore, I am a huge fan of all types of games. I used to have family board game nights when I was younger, and I still play card games whenever I visit. I have played a lot of video games, from nintendo games to first person shooters to idle clickers. Some of my favorite neo-medieval games are the Zelda franchise, the Witcher franchise, and Munchkin.
Alongside my neo-medieval gaming experience, I also have practical coding and writing experience. I know python, java and javaFX, and basic HTML, which can help when game development is further underway, and I often enjoy writing short creative stories that highlight a shared experience. The Bane of Demenya is my first large-scale approach at bringing attention to an issue. Our team wanted to craft a world around the issue of Alzheimer’s- thus, Eatura was born. I want to ensure that over the next few decades, effective policies are put into place to decrease the cost of Alzheimer’s care and increase the effectiveness at treating Alzheimer’s patients. My girlfriend’s family is predisposed to Alzheimer’s and the possibility of her or her mom getting the disease is above average. If that were to happen, I want them to have the best care possible; The Bane of Demenya is meant to spark conversation to bring successful policies into fruition.
Hi! My name is Sara and I too am a part of EaturaVision. As a through-and-through Norwegian, I have learned many Norse tales throughout my childhood. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the daunting tales our Viking ancestors went through and the many conquests Thor, Odin, and others endured. All of these stories helped me find a love for medievalism and all that comes with it. That is why, by taking on this neomedieval video game, I get to watch the imaginations I had as a kid come to life in front of my eyes.
As a computer scientist that specializes in Java, JavaScript, and JavaFX, I had a good amount to do with the coding behind the video game. It was very fun to read the script of the game and put it into code. I also enjoyed watching the final product become interactive for players and us game-makers too. I am also an avid supporter of making Alzheimer's more well-known amongst our citizens and bringing attention to the lack of support Alzheimer's patients are given in the United States. This needs to change and with the help of the Bane of Demenya, we might be able to do so.
Hello! My name is Grant Espy and I am a member of EaturaVision. I am a storyteller and have always been, becoming the main plot developer of the game Bane of Demenya. I grew up playing dungeons and dragons since 5th grade as both a player and a dungeon master learning a lot about storytelling, creative design, and plot flow. The mass open world RPG setting of the world of Eatura allows for amazing creative liberties allowing lots of different magic and creatures throughout the world. I am someone who has played various different open world video games from The Legend of Zelda to the Elder Scrolls games and Elden Ring. I am very involved with these games and have absorbded their story and written stories of my own. I have many short stories and longer written stories about magical worlds of my own creation which makes me uniquely suited for this specfic role.
As a mechanical engineer who specializes in robotics I am also familiar with coding languages and can help out with the projects coding. I have also had experience with graphic design of dnds sts allowing me to be useful in that way as well. My grandmother died of Alzheimers and as such I am extremely motivated to help make a difference in the cause. She fought a long hard battle but watching that happen to her drives me to make a better future for others with Alzheimers. It is not a disease we can cure but one we can help to have a smaller impact on those whom it effects.
Hey! I’m Nikhita and I’m a member of EaturaVision. Books were always a part of my world growing up and I often found myself in my fictional world more than reality. I loved reading about everyone’s different adventures and being able to do things that I could not do in real life. Because let’s admit it, flying with dragons is so much cooler than the tiny lizard in our backyard. High fantasy novels introduced me to the world of neo-medievalism and grew my love for medieval stories and history. Neo-medievalism is an intersection of historical worldliness and unbounded imagination. It truly can be anything our imagination desires, and I hope this video game shares the true essence of this.
Being a physics major with a focus in bio and neurophysics, I am no stranger to the debilitating affects of cognitive disorders. During my time working as a medical assistant, I was able to see how these disorders, such as Alzheimer’s, truly disrupted every aspect of a person’s life. It was heartbreaking to see someone slowly lose bits and pieces of themselves without any true understanding of what they are going through and no way to fix them. Our current research on the brain and cognitive disorders is extremely limited, making the care healthcare professionals can provide very small. Through The Bane of Demenya, I hope we can raise awareness for these issues and reduce the impact of Alzheimer’s and other cognitive disorders, together.
