Over the course of the campaign, Scouts logged almost 100,000 volunteer hours and removed more
than 43,000 pounds of plastic and over 93,500 pounds of other trash.
IRVING, TX (November 24, 2025) – Scouting America is proud to announce the successful completion of its inaugural Scouting for Clean Waterways initiative, a nationwide environmental campaign that engaged thousands of Scouts, volunteers, and community partners in restoring and protecting local waterways.
In partnership with the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Marine Debris Program, and CleanHub, Scouting America launched the initiative early this year, focused on cleaning up rivers, lakes, and streams across the country, educating communities about water conservation and pollution prevention. The campaign aligns with Scouting America’s commitment to outdoor stewardship and civic responsibility.
“Clean water is essential to healthy communities and thriving ecosystems,” said Roger Krone, president and chief scout executive of Scouting America. “Through Scouting for Clean Waterways, our Scouts have demonstrated the power of youth-led action and environmental leadership and reflects our enduring commitment to service and sustainability.”
Over the course of the campaign, Scouts logged almost 100,000 volunteer hours and removed more than 43,000 pounds of plastic and over 93,500 pounds of other trash.
In a powerful show of global solidarity, CleanHub, a leading environmental organization focused on ocean-bound plastic recovery, partnered with Scouting America to match every pound of plastic collected by Scouts, up to 100,000 pounds, with an equal removal effort in global pollution hotspots.
“We’re incredibly proud to partner with Scouting America on their Clean Waterways initiative. By matching their efforts pound for pound, we’re also making sure that plastic waste is collected from pollution hotspots around the world. Our combined efforts will move us closer to achieving cleaner oceans and healthier communities.” Joel Tasche, CleanHub founder and CEO.”
