About Us
We are a group of high schoolers in the San Leandro Academy for Multimedia (SLAM), at San Leandro High School. This Short Documentary and everything that goes with it, including this website, is a part of our school-wide Season of Service.
What is the Fast for Nonviolence?
The Fast for Nonviolence is an ongoing fast where SLAM students create service projects to promote peace and nonviolence within our school, community, and society as a whole. Each day of the Fast consists of groups of students fasting for 24 hours. As this occurs, they present their projects to their classes, the school, and world via social media. This event kicks off the Season of Service.
What is the Season of Service?
The Season of Service is a school wide project that branched from the Fast for Nonviolence. Once SLAM created the Fast, there was a desire to create a school-wide project to get the word out about topical issues and social justice. Each academy and club creates their own project they feel that is most important to them, and we, as SLAM students, have chosen to focus on this topic.
Meet the Team
Sadie Barreto
Sadie Barreto is a Senior at SLHS and is in the midsts of their third year in the SLAM program. They identify as pansexual and genderqueer.
Destini Bryant
Destini Bryant is a senior at San Leandro High School and identifies as an asexual woman. She has been apart of SLAM for 3 years.
Lizelle Chavez
Lizelle Chavez is a Senior at San Leandro High School. She is 17 years old and identifies as pansexual. She is still unsure of what she identifies as gender-wise.
Alicia Marshall
Alicia Marshall is a 17 year old Senior at San Leandro High School and is finishing her second and final year in SLAM. She identifies as a cis queer woman.
Nathan Perry
Nathan Perry is a Senior at San Leandro High School and has been in the SLAM program for three years. He is 17 years old and identifies as a gay male.
Matthew Rothlisberger
Matthew Rothlisberger is a senior at San Leandro High School. He is 17 years old and identifies as a gay male.
