Thark Ridge to Devils Throne Link Track
The track that links Devils Throne from Thark Ridge has been rerouted.
The map below has the link marked in blue completed in 2021. The red line is the reroute of the track carried out in 2017 to bypass a wet plain where the track previously was located..
The Friends of Wellington Park assisted Parks & Wildlife Service to install markers on the Thark Ridge track then made recommendations for rerouting sections of the track from Big Bend to the Thark saddle. These were agreed to and the group then cut and the reroutes and continue to maintain the track. These reroutes were to avoid very boggy and degraded areas.
Similarly a wet area on the Devils Throne track was assessed and a new route to avoid the area was proposed and accepted by PWS. The FOWP did this rerouting during 2017.
The one section of track that remained was an undesirable location and after an investigation a better route was located. This linked the two tracks to make it a safer walk and with a better environmental outcome.
The new link track between Thark Ridge and Devils Throne tracks was completed over 4 day sessions between December 2020 and March 2021. The total length is 720 metres
Some temporary signage has been added but permanent ones will be installed.

The new Thark Ridge - Devil's Throne track has been open for a few weeks now and is a terrific achievement by the Friends of Wellington Park, making for a safer, drier trail to the stunning Devil's Throne. Well worth the walk. Last week it took me 4hrs return from the Montagu Peak car park with a 30 min lunch break on the pillars. Thanks to all involved in the construction!

I just wanted to follow up our correspondence from Feb to say that we kept an eye on your progress (and the weather) and made it out to Devil's Throne via the new trail last week. Wow, what a great job you have all done. Dry, easy to navigate and soft underfoot for now!! Devil's Throne didn't disappoint so we were pleased to make the effort. I wanted to pass on my thanks to you and the test of the friends involved in the construction. The work is greatly appreciated.
