Initial work on Thark Ridge involved adding marker poles and track clearing in the southern end of the ridge. Once this was done, we concentrated on the northern half where a very substantial portion was quite degraded. There were multiple tracks at the start going across the wet moorland. Various options were checked out for potential rerouting and approval gained for the selected way. On ground work in rerouting the track began in 2012 (stage 1) and several days work was done to clear vegetation on harder ground. Once this was completed it allowed the old tracks over the plains to be closed. Each of three pads had closed signs installed.
The plain is gradually recovering with the old tracks in some areas being very hard to find.
The photos below show some of this change.
