Connecting classrooms is important to me as I tend to "think global and act local".
While at KAS, one teacher's goal was to try Mystery Skype sessions. As coach, I was there to support by helping her connect to people and resources. These Mystery Skype sessions continued after this first time and even after I was no longer at the school.
When I went back in the classroom at another school, she was there to coach and connect with my class in a Mystery Skype session.
I have also helped connect classes with experts in content areas.
When I was teaching Grade 1, I had many EAL students in my class. We read the story Ganesha and the Curse of the Moon. I took the story and rewrote it, then had students read it as Readers Theater.
When I was teaching Grade 1, I connected with some fellow COETAILers for a collaborative story. Participating in a Traveling Tale.
This was one of the many collaborative projects I was able to participate in with my PLN. Another favorite was the Travelling Teddy.
In Grade 1, I had them do several design challenges. Here are a few:
This one was to design a boat with paper and see how many 1-yen coins it can hold. The class had a large, plastic
Another challenge the students were interested in was to make tops out of LEGO blocks.
Our process - beginning, middle, end
This was a follow-up to a lecture I gave on Digital Footprints.
This is a student-created 3D model from my MYP Design class. We were using Blender in our class for 3D modeling. Most students used it for 3D printing. This student went the extra mile.
This MYP Design unit was based on a 99% Invisible Podcast. Students were to research a country and design a flag.
Another perspective was captured in an article on Tekiota.
I helped the Grade 6 class with their PYP Exhibitions. I really like how the PYPx is set up at OYIS with students becoming more attuned with their projects.
Here is the guide I started for students taking the PYPx.
I think I made this section about my students' learning, but this one is about my own. In the EAL certificate course, I made this infographic of individual differences in second language acquisition.
