In the beginning of the 1920s once prohibition began, the hotel's casino became more well known as it contained alcohol and allowed bootleggers and mafias to thrive within it.
The casino-hotel's "Golden Era" lasted between 1920 and 1967 where it was the most active it's ever been. The reasoning for this was that it started as a hotspot for drinking during prohibition and traction soon got around about the casino's existence. The casino-hotel had legal protection from an outside source, which was why the casino never closed yet lost its traction in 1977 when it officially opened because the thrill of a hidden spot became lost with the legalization of gambling.
The reason for why the Golden Era cuts off in 1967 is because of the constant investigations involving people going missing and allegedly dying within the hotel and the man in charge of those investigations--Chief Johnathan Ivory--passed away in August of 1967. The investigations were held off and the liveliness died down in 1967 after Ivory's passing.
