Chocolate Santa Program 2023



The T.G. Howard Community Center Inc. administered its Chocolate Santa programming for its third year.   The program included Coloring Contests in the elementary schools, Senior citizen treat bags, Toy shop, and pictures with Santa.   One hundred and sixteen senior citizens were served, and numerous families.

Tickled Pink 2023

The T.G. Howard Community  held its annual Tickled Pink Program for Breast Cancer Survivors, and those still battling.  This year the T.G. Howard Community Center collaborated with one of the Chamber of Commerce partners, the Jackson Park Inn, to give three wonderful ladies a relaxation package.   The ladies were able to spend the night in the King Suites, received  goody bags, limited addition Key Chain, private dinner from a local chef, and a great breakfast  in the morning.

Several other ladies in the community received baskets with bread, fruit, and other goodys.

Book Bag and Supplies Give away 2023




The T.G. Howard Community Center Inc. held its fifth back to school program this year.  The community center partnered with several organization, and gave away over 345 bookbags filled with supplies.

T.G. Howard Community Center Inc. Youth Academy of Excellence 2023





The T.G. Howard Community Center Inc. facilitated its third Youth Academy of Excellence.  The students visited college campuses, businesses, news stations, and participated in personal growth programming.  Nine students participated this year, which represents the largest cohort that the T.G. Howard Community Center Inc. youth committee has experienced.

Table for Two Program



The T.G. Howard Community Center Inc. held a contest for local couples in the New River Valley.  The T.G. Howard Community Center Inc. Outreach partnered with a Chamber of Commerce member and purchased several gift cards to a local restaurant.  Supporting local businesses, as well as providing couples with an  opportunity for quality time, was the goal of the table for two program. Three hundred names were submitted by community members for the chance to win.  Several couples were selected.

Summer STEM Program





The T.G. Howard Community Center Inc. Education committee is aware of how important learning cycle is for children during the summer months.  This year the program  selected the Building Bridges Child Development Center as the site to offer the program.  The Committee provided the center with various items with a learning component.  The Child Development created certain competitions based in science for the children to compete in for the chance to win the items.   Great fun was had by all, and most importantly children continued to learn during the summer months.

Academic Scholarship Winners 2022-2023 




The T.G. Howard Community Center Inc. gifted four high school students with $500.00 dollar scholarships .  The students provided brief essays that were assessed by the T.G. Howard Community Center  Board of Directors.

Housing Program 2023

The T.G. Howard Community Center Inc., Spirit of Life Worship center, and the Virginia Poverty Law Center held a second Annual informational session.   The program highlighted several organizations that provide invaluable information for community members.  

The session was well attended by community representatives, and agency stakeholders.  The sessions are provided at no cost to the public.   



"Mother May  I ?" Program 2023

The T.G. Howard Community Center Outreach committee held its annual "Mother May I" program that consists of four mothers names being selected to have a shopping trip, and to receive  a self pamper basket.   Several hundred names were submitted by members of the community, and then randomly selected.   The program's goal is to acknowledge women that  fill the role of mother in a child's life, as well as supporting local business.  The ladies  had a good time, and  took an opportunity to fellowship with one another.

The T.G. Howard Community Center Inc. and several volunteers delivered  over a hundred and six baskets to senior citizens of the New River Valley.  Information from the Agency on Aging was provided in each basket in an effort to share valuable resources to the seniors.  The true intent of the program is to have meaningful contact with individuals of a certain age that live by themselves.  The T.G. Howard Community Center Inc. is committed to supporting the elderly of the New River Valley.



Women's History Month Event 2023





The T.G. Howard Community Center Inc. held an annual Women's History   event.  The event provided board members, volunteers, and stakeholders the opportunity to meet.  The ladies discussed the future of the organization, and participated in various activities.  laughter and lively discussions filled the room, and a good time was had by all.

Color Of Love Series

The T.G. Howard Community Center Inc.  facilitates several programs in the month of February under the "Color Of Love Series"  The Color of Love Series consists of literature giveaways,  Romantic dinners  for several couples , a  sweetheart candy program, and a couples in love segment that highlight healthy committed relationships.

Community Education Series

 

The T.G. Howard Community Center Inc.  will be facilitating Community Education programs over the course of the year that deal with subjects impactful  to families in the New River Valley.  

 

Education, Financial Management, Social/Emotional Development, and Health are the major areas that will be covered. 

 

The introductory program occurred on December 13 2022, in a collaborative effort with the Virginia Poverty Law Center.  This program dealt with Energy Affordability & Housing.  

 

Ms. Kajsa Foskey, Economic Justice Outreach Coordinator, facilitated the meeting at the Spirit of Life Worship Center located in Pulaski.  

 

The program provided useful information to several community leaders that serve many of those impacted by housing and energy challenges.  Representatives from Legal aide, Community Action, Social Services, and Faith based organizations also had the opportunity to share pertinent information with other stakeholders.

Chocolate Santa Program 2022






The T.G. Howard Community Center Inc. conducted its Chocolate Santa Program for the second time in 2022.  This consisted of a Neighborhood Visitation Program, School Coloring & Essay Contest, and new for 2022.... a Christmas Toy Store.


Well over 160 treat bags were given to senior citizens in the New River Valley.

Chocolate Santa had a lot of help, over 18 volunteers assisted.

Members of the Board of Supervisors of Pulaski County had an opportunity to tour the T.G. Howard Community Center.  Future programs and plans were discussed , and the T.G. Howard Community Center was awarded  a community impact award.

The T.G. Howard Community Center Inc. had the pleasure of administering several programs during the month of October for Breast Cancer Awareness.  Thankfully due to donations and grant received, treat baskets were given to survivors and candy treat bags were handed out in neighborhoods.   Several survivors were also given a shopping spree  trip at a local fashion store.

Backpack & Supplies Program 2022

The T.G.Howard Community Center Inc. had another successful backpack and supplies program.  Over 202 backpacks with supplies were given out.  The local police department as well various civic organizations contributed to ensure the children's needs were met.

  Summer Youth Academy Weekend Workshop 2022

The T.G. Howard Community Center Inc. had its second Academy of Excellence program.  The program  had a weekend workshop which consisted of a music appreciation activity, college campus tour, and a financial literacy program for children.  The Academy lasts throughout the year with previous academy members participating in community service programs.  This year five students were selected for the new cohort.

The T.G. Howard Community Center Inc.  provided five , five hundred scholarships to Pulaski County Seniors.   The Scholarships honored Ms. Ellavester Howard, Mary Montgomery, Thomas Brown, Joseph Reed, and Officer John Leeper.

"Mother May I" 


The Mother May I program had the community select three deserving mothers to receive a shopping spree at a local clothing store. The mothers were selected due to their dedication to their families and community.  The mothers also had an opportunity to have their make up done and a small photo shoot.  




Hip Hop Easter Program 2022

The T.G. Howard Community Center Inc. along with several churches, gave out over 100 Easter baskets to neighborhoods in Pulaski County.   The young, and the young at heart had a great time eating and playing with the surprises in the baskets.

The T.G. Howard Outreach group along with several volunteers visited senior citizens during the holiday.  Paper bags with hard candy, fruit, nuts  and chocolate bars were given out.  Information regarding services from the local agency on aging were also handed out for those interested.

The T.G. Howard Community Center held its second annual coloring contest.  All of the County's elementary schools participated.  Well over 600 submissions were judged.  The children had an opportunity to win toys and bikes.

The T.G. Howard Community Center Inc. participated in the Trick or Treat trail at the Randolph park in Pulaski Virginia.  The event was attended by over 5,000 individuals.   The theme for 2021  was "Ease on Down the Road", from the Musical Wiz.  A good time was had by all.

Tickled Pink 2021

The T.G. Howard acknowledged Breast Cancer Awareness month by utilizing its Tickled Pink  program to share breast  health information to women in the New River Valley.  The program consisted of purchasing celebration baskets for several breast cancer survivors, conducting  an interview with local physician Dr. Stewart, and highlighting the  encouraging stories of four survivors on the T.G. Howard Facebook page.

The T.G. Howard Community Inc. had the pleasure of working with several students during the summer of 2021.    The students were exposed to several individuals that taught them about various career opportunities.  The program also allowed the children occasions to perform various community service projects.



Baskets of Love

for Mother's Day 2021



Baskets of fruits, candies, and baked goods were given to mothers in the New River Valley.   Individuals were encouraged to submit their mother's or grandmother's names so that they could be potentially selected through a raffle process.   Several  baskets  were given, and needless to say, everyone that received one was very excited.

Scholarship Program

The T.G. Howard Community presented the Pulaski Highschool with a check for $2,000.00 dollars. The funds will be used to establish four $500.00  dollar scholarships.  The scholarships will be made available to four senior students.   The scholarships are named after four African Americans that served the Pulaski Community in various capacities.  Ms. Ellavester Howard, Ms. Mary Montgomery, Mr. Thomas Brown, and Mr. Joseph Reed.  

Students will be required to complete a short essay and be interested in serving in a human services field.

Christmas 2020

The T.G. Howard Community Center Inc. held a coloring contest for elementary students in  the Pulaski County School System.  The children could win a selection of books as well  LOL dolls.  There were over one hundred and sixty entries.  The local Christmas store also donated several bikes that were given to children that participated.

Halloween Event  2020












The T.G. Howard Community Center Inc. participated in a Drive-Thru Halloween event to raise money for a local program for children.  The T.G. Howard Community Center Outreach set up a haunted Car Wash Site, that won first place out of over twenty-four participants. Candy was given out to over 3,000 cars full of trick or treaters.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The Tickled Pink Initiative provided several Breast Cancer survivors with a basket of fruits, vegetables and a plant during the month of October.


Student Hygiene Packet Program 2020


The T.G. Howard Community Center Inc. , several local churches , and local businesses on September 5, 2020  provided 145 hygiene packets to students starting the school year in person and virtually .  The packets included: Soap, Deodorant, Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Hand Sanitizer, Lotion, Shampoo, Mouthwash, and Pouch.

Family Fun at Home Program 2020

The Family Fun at Home Program was created to give children and their parents a much needed diversion as they dealt with some of the challenges presented by the Covid-19 Pandemic

Trunk on Treat 2019

The T.G. Howard Community Center inc. participated in it’s first Halloween event. A fun time was had by all and there was an amazing turn out. Congratulations to Jordan from the Town of Pulaski’s administrative office. The event was an unequivocal success. Special thanks to Nevaeh Sherman, for volunteering after school and braving the chilly weather. Thanks to the T.G. Howard Community Center inc. board members for their donations as well as those that came out to assist with today’s activity.
