February 28, 2025

We mourn the loss of one of our own, Kris Williams, who passed away on Feb. 8, 2025. We just found out today. We made contact with his family and found out the details. His passing was unexpected. The family will be having a memorial service and luncheon sometime later this year in Columbus, OH. As soon as I have details, I will post them here and on our social media pages.

Kris was a long time player of Dragon Storm and was a member of my personal play group for many years. He will be dearly missed. Rest peacefully, dear friend.

AcadeCon 2025 in Dayton, OH, is coming up on Nov. 7th-9th at the Dayton Convention Center. Althought we will not have a booth at the Con, we will have game scheduled in every slot. I will post the actual game schedule with important information as soon as I have it finalized. We hope to see you there. I will also place at least a 10% discount on all orders placed for the convention.

We are fast approaching CincyCon at the Butler County Fairgrounds near Hamilton, OH, on February 28th - March 2nd. We will have several new sets and lots of fun to be had by all. Join us and bring a friend! We hope to see you there!

CincyCon, our next planned convention, is at the Butler County Fairgrounds near Hamilton, OH, on February 28 - Mar 2, 2025. This is a very good convention for Dragon Storm. My team and I are working on several new card sets and some other special goodies to unveil at this con. There will be freebies for all Guild members and drawings for some special prizes. We'll have a demo table or two right in front of our booth spaces, so there's plenty of room for our games. Preregistration has just begun. We'd love to see you there!

The Guild for Dragon Storm will have a presence at Daycon, April 12 & 13 in Dayton, Ohio. (See the Daycon 2024 webpage for more information.) While there won’t be a vendor booth, there will be games scheduled for each time slot.

Fiday, from 2-5 is “Rosewood”. An introductory game for new characters. New players are welcome, pre-gen characters are provided, and the rules taught. The characters are from the village of Rosewood, named after the Rosewood tree that grows just outside the town. Down river from Rosewood, a neighboring village is in danger of being overrun by the blight. The characters are sent as part of a group to help those villagers pack up and leave their village before it’s too late.

Friday, from 6:30 to 9:30, is “Out of the Savana”, a rescue mission for characters up to 175 cp in size. This adventure is refereed by Ann Gray.

Saturday, from 9 to 12, is “Baby Sitting”, refereed by Kris Williams. The characters have been asked to look after a young girl. Beginning characters up to 150 cp are welcomed. Pre-gen characters are available.

Finally, Saturday, starting at 2:00 pm and running until 9:30 are 2 sessions of the continuing saga, “Living the Dream”. In the first portion of the adventure, the characters are tasked with cleansing the warp in an enemy controlled area, preferably, the main encampment. Can they come up with a plan to accomplish this? Assuming they are successful, the adventure continues as now they must clean-up the area by making it safe for their allies to dwell in.

A fun weekend of adventure awaits all Dragon Storm players.

We will be at AcadeCon in Dayton, OH, again this year. The dates are November 3rd-5th. We'll have games in the book as well as pick-up games every session. I'll have perks for all Guild members who attend. If you aren't a Guild member yet, you can join by clicking on the Membership link, or just join in person at AcadeCon. It should be a good time.

AcadeCon in Dayton was a great place to get back to face to face Cons. Had some great help and players to make the weekend enjoyable. Our next convention will be CincyCon at the Butler County Fairgrounds in Hamilton, OH, March 3rd-5th, 2023.
I am also planning to make Dragon Storm Con a reality next summer in July! Three days of nothing but Dragon Storm in Chillicothe, OH. More details on both coming soon!

As of today, the +2 benefit to a contest roll, which is the playable aspect of the Guild Member and Guild Warden card, is only usable on the member's own rolls. It cannot be played on another player's character rolls unless permission is given by the GM.

Well, I have retired from teaching, so I now have more time to devote to Dragon Storm. As Conventions are slowly coming back, so too will the Guild for Dragon Storm presence at Conventions. I will return to Origins starting in 2023, and to CincyCon (March 2023) and AcadeCon (November 2022), as well. I will also try to expand my Con schedule outside of Ohio as best I can. Finding suitable Cons will be tricky, so I would appreciate input and suggestions from our fan base. Please email me with suggestions or visit our Facebook page.

Brand New Item in the Store!!

We now have a DS 2.0 Starter Deck! This is a fixed card deck; all decks are exactly the same. There are no random cards. It is 80 total cards: 52 fixed players cards and 28 fixed GM cards. This deck allows you to mix and match cards to create 9 possible character combinations. It includes all the cards you need to create any one of them. There are lot of options. The GM cards allow you to create several adventures without having to add any other cards. You also receive 3 character sheets and the DS 2.0 Rules in Brief for playing the game. Set 627 - Cast 4 is now available on the GM (Warden) Corner tab. This is the first new set outside of the 2.0 GM block previously released. It will also be available soon as an actual card set for purchase, if you so desire. More GM sets are in the works, so stay tuned! :-)

Several sets include an Anchor card. Examples would be Warrior, Elethay, Scout, Aristocrat, Wizardry 1, Charms, etc. Players have for some time mentioned that buying multiple sets led to unused Anchor cards that were part of each set. Since I have been working on changing the look of all sets, I decided to pull the Anchor cards from all sets that contain an Anchor card, making it available as a single card instead. A new card is being added to the associated sets to replace the Anchor card. Below is a list of the sets where this has happened and the cards that are being added as replacements.

The response to a DS Con in July this year was not enough to make it work, so it will not go forward this year. I will definitely be organizing one for next summer in July of 2022.
We will be attending CincyCon on October 22-24, 2021, at the Butler County Fairgrounds location in Hamilton, OH, with a vendor's booth and a dedicated table in front of it for demo and regular games. The CincyCon website (http://cincycon.org/) has all the details. I believe it read that GMs that register games get a free weekend badge. Check it out!

We are currently working on GM cards to help our Wardens present games easily and quickly with little or no prep. So, whether you're planning a campaign, a single game session, or just want to throw something together quickly, we're gonna make it as easy as possible for you.

We are also currently reworking GM cards for the 2.0 game. We hope to have them ready early in the new year. They will be available in both pdf and actual card form. The even better news is that they will be made available at a very low cost, some even for free. We want to support our GMs and Wardens and help them to encourage more players to get on the Dragon Storm wagon.

I also have a GM book coming out in 3 parts. Part I will be about being a GM (Warden) in the Classic environment using Classic Dragon Storm and Kanchaka cards. Since a lot of our players still play with these cards almost exclusively, I want to make sure we continue to support them and their games.

Part II of the GM book will be for the 2.0 environment. We strive very hard to bring out new content as often as possible for players who are moving forward in Dragon Storm. The more flexible playing style in 2.0 allows a lot of variety in character creation and play. While it is not as limiting as the Classic game, it does address some of the problems that crept into the Classic game over its first 15 years or so. Since our supply of Classic cards, especially Starter Decks, is limited, it is also the best way for new players to get into the game. We have lots of resources in the works and are very excited about where 2021 will take us.

Part III is a discussion of the Hybrid game, the melding of Classic and 2.0 into a viable game platform. As always, Classic and 2.0 cards are compatible but require some balancing. That is where the GM is most important. We will offer tips and strategies to help make it an easier transition.

The best news is that all of the GM information will be presented in pdf form to start for free download. GMs spend a lot of time creating great game content for our players. It is only right that we support them by limiting their spending on GM materials so that they can concentrate those funds on their characters when they play. For those that want a print version, we will be offering printed cards and a book a very reduced costs. I always liked that a GM could throw together a classic game in minutes using the GM Scene cards as a basis. They will be making a debut in the 2.0 game, as well.
And most importantly, when you are out and about, everyone please stay safe and healthy, wear your mask, keep appropriate social distancing, don't forget to wash and sanitize your hands often. Take care and be well!
