A sentence is a group of words that makes a complete sense.

A sentence is an outcome of a complete thought.

A sentence always begins with a capital letter.

All sentences will have verbs.

A sentence could be formed without subject or an object.

But, no sentence could be formed without a verb.

Example:

• The Sun shines bright.

Types of Sentence:

There are four kinds of Sentences.

a. Assertive Sentences

Assertive sentences are simple sentences.

They state a fact or thought or an opinion or direction.

Examples:

• The parrot is a beautiful bird.
• The Sun shines bright.

b. Interrogative Sentences

The sentence that is used to ask question is called an Interrogative sentence.

Examples:

• Have you seen the Taj Mahal?
• Which color do you like?

c. Imperative Sentences

The sentence which expresses order, command, request, advice or suggestion is called an Imperative sentence.

Examples:

• Open the door. (Order)
• Shoot down the enemy. (Command)
• Please help me. (Request)
• Try, try again. (Advice)
• Let's go for a walk. (Suggestion)

d. Exclamatory Sentences

The sentence which expresses strong feeling or emotion such as sorrow, joy, surprise, wonder, etc. is called an exclamatory sentence.

Examples:

• What a tall tree it is!
• Bravo! Well done.
• Could I have a new Barbie Doll!
