MSc Thesis 2020, ITU Copenhagen, Denmark
This thesis focuses on the issue of children’s decreased interest in reading, and high amount of screen-based activities. The research explores new opportunities to design for the Danish library context by introducing animated screen-based interactions to support children’s literary choices.
Many children seem to find the practice of finding a book difficult, therefore two prototypes were designed for the purpose of exploring new ways to do it. The prototypes were tested on children in the age of 8-12 years old in the library space. My work suggests that the library should not try to compete with children’s digital interests, but instead use it to their advantage and explore new ways of engaging children in literature.
