Telstar Trash Team is not an official club or organization, but a slogan we came up with to describe our Environmental Policy class, offered at Telstar High School in collaboration with Maine Forest Collaboration. This site was made for a semester long project, the objective of which being to improve environmental sustainability in Bethel. The focus of our project was local sustainability, specifically managament of waste. Originally, we wanted to focus on litter by getting more public trash cans in the Bethel area, but were rerouted when we struggled to get a hold of the town office. This was actually helpful in the long run, as we found out through various feild work that trash cans weren't the solution to local litter- the area with the most trash in Bethel is the skate park, which is also one of the only places with a trash can. There has also been an issue in Bethel in the past with the regular disposal of entire household's trash in these trash cans. We turned our focus to education on recycling used items in good condition and bringing awarness to unsustainable consumerism with flyers, and eventually landed on linking this website to provide in depth information on were to go and what those establishments except.
