Facebook Group - Friendability
We have created a Facebook group for adults with disabilities, 21 and up, called Friendability. This is a safe space for adults to network and build friendships. We saw a need to help curb feelings of social isolation related to the ongoing pandemic, and a lack of safe social opportunities online. This group will be moderated to promote appropriate social interactions and increase engagement.
Cooking or baking with your client via telehealth is a possibility! First, pick a recipe and then make sure you both have the ingredients. You can also tie money management and shopping into this activity. This is an opportunity to create shopping lists and budgets. Parents can be involved as well. They can supervise the oven or stove while you walk the client through everything else. (No bake recipes are always an option if there is no access to a stove or oven.)
Virtual cooking and baking is also an option! This is an opportunity to practice following verbal and written directions. "Orders" can be made in which clients have to follow, such as using the sandwich making game and following the order of toppings asked for. Object identification, sequencing, and verbal communication all can be addressed with these apps and games!
