The TEKSbank team has developed science cluster sets for your use within TEKSbank and/or TEKSbank Classroom. The items are clustered by grade level band (Elementary, Middle, and HS Biology) and organized by reporting category. Refer to the videos (coming soon) and "cheat sheet" document below for specifics on locating and building cluster sets for your assessments.
TEA's Development of Stimulus-Based Item Sets for Science
Starting with the 2025-2026 school year, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) is developing stimulus-based item sets, referred to as clusters, for science. The content will be grouped together to more closely align with classroom instruction and reinforce the recurring themes in the new Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
Cluster Composition and Scoring
Each cluster will consist of one stimulus and 3-5 questions.
Each question in the set will reference the stimulus, vary in question type, and student expectation.
Each question will be scored individually.
Each question counts as a separate question on the blueprint.
Each question in a cluster should be a different type of question.
Implementation in STAAR Science Assessments
Once these clusters are implemented in the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR), each STAAR Science Assessment will include 1-2 clusters.
