Education has always been an essential topic to me. In elementary, I transferred from the city to a suburban school in my neighborhood. At that time, I found out the significant disparity of education resources between cities and countries. We did not have camps, extra activities, or even any English books! Born in a wealthier family, I had a better education than my classmates. Therefore, I had more opportunities to compete in English competitions, take online classes, and participate in camps and outside school activities. However, my classmates were limited by the education inequality. They have a thirst for learning but don't have the resources to. This, later on, pushes me to fight for education equality.
I volunteered at my sisters' elementary to teach English Readers' Theater because of the insufficient resources. I taught them English Reader's Theater and performed on stage in front of the entire student body. Slowly, these students developed a passion for English, and their English skills improved dramatically. Even their teachers told me they were more actively participating during class.
In the summer of 2019, I independently planned an English camp and invited some friends to be teachers after just turning 15. We taught them English vocabulary and phrases through games. Our goal is to let children understand that they have the ability to read English books by taking them through the process of reading English children's books. On the other hand, even though our volunteers are only teenagers (13 to 20 years old), they still gave me plenty of feedback, which made me realize the impact we did on them. The teachers find different ways to teach while practicing English. Through this, they achieve a sense of self-confidence when using their talents to teach.
Thus, I founded the organization "Teenage Light." We enlarged our camp, hosting another English camp during the 2020 winter break , two Science camps in 2021, one online Climate Change camp and Python coding camp. In our organization, we also invited high schoolers from various schools to be mentors. Because of our camps, the volunteers have a chance to apply their talents to teach children. In the end, they said to me, "Wow! I can't believe I can actually do these things." This self-confidence is clearly shown on their faces in our pictures, each shining bright and telling the whole world that they have just beaten that somebody they were yesterday.

William Arthur Ward once said," Opportunities are like sunrises. If you wait too long, you miss them." In the year of 2020, I happened to read a news about Teenage Light Camp, which inspired me so hugely that I decided to contact Lucy via line. I didn't let this opportunity just slip away. Therefore, this amazing journey started in the summer of 2021. Amid the pandemic, we couldn't but make the camp online. Despite the distance, I still felt the energy of those adorable and smart kids. This year, fortunately we finally held a physical camp where I could really interact with our students and coworkers. I went to Chiayi from Taipei by THSR and even stayed at Lucy's place before the day of the camp. It was the best experience I've ever had. Not only did I learn to be more patient since I had to talk to little kids, but I also got to know so many different people outside my comfort zone.

My name is Tina, and I am in Chiayi Girl's Senior high school. When I received the invitation to teach again, the feeling of absolute accomplishment and jubilation from last time pushed me forward, and I decided to join the teaching process. I hope it is going to be a fabulous experience for both the volunteers and the children participating.
