SOLIDWORKS is used to develop mechatronics systems from beginning to end. At the initial stage, the software is used for planning, visual ideation, modeling, feasibility assessment, prototyping, and project management. The software is then used for design and building of mechanical, electrical, and software elements
Tutorial Training
Introduction to SolidWorks (Pressure Plate)
This lesson includes:
Creating base, boss, and cut features from sketches
Adding fillets to smooth edges
Creating a circular pattern
Adding drawing views
Adding centerlines, center marks, and dimensions to the drawing
Final render of Pressure Plate.
Final Engineering Drawing of the Pressure Plate.

Revolved Boss/Base & Swept Boss/Base Assessment
Preview of Revolved Boss/Bass command mid-construction.
Preview of Swept Boss/Base command mid-construction.
Preview of Circular Pattern command mid-construction.
Desk Topper 3D Print
Preview of the Revolve command mid-construction to create the base sphere.
Preview of the Circular Array command mid-construction to create the sun flares.
Preview of the Mirror command mid-construction. This makes the sun flares extrude on both sides of the front plane.
Preview of the Extruded Cut command mid-construction. This creates the hole the desk top goes though.
PMI Aluminum Block
To start this project, I used a slide caliper to find the dimensions of a given aluminum block, the same block used in our precision measuring tools unit. I then took these dimensions and recreated the block in SolidWorks. Next I will create a wooden counterpart using a band saw and a drill press as seen here.
Dimensioned drawing of the PMI block.
