Our magnificent strangler fig tree was dedicated in June 1995, and the wording reads:
This magnificent specimen is estimated to be over 150 years old.
The remains of the host tree Eucalyptus Punctata within the central column.
The Ficus genus are known for their extensive surface root systems as demonstrated when looking down from this platform.
Over 95% of the root system occurs in the top 400 mm of soil and this forms the source of nutrients for this tree.
We dedicate the preservation of this tree to the ideal of peace and harmony within our retirement community. Hopefully the strength and longevity of the fig will come to represent the spirit of our residents.
