Meeting photo
Despite the clash with the Art Class our group photo shows we had 10 for 8th meeting, although at least two people had to leave before the photo was taken. The very wet weather forced cancellation of many outdoor activities and at least two additional people were able to attend. One at least admitted she learned something new.
Michael had planned to make this a meeting where we reviewed the main topics we had discussed in previous meetings so far. At least one ToC member had also asked for this prior to our meeting. We went back to basics reviewing our key information for connecting the the ToC Wi-Fi hotspot, accessing the ToC site and saving a bookmark, and downloading the WhatsApp app to join the Cypress Gardens Residents and Tech over Coffee groups.
WhatsApp use is gradually increasing and it is good to see several people are discovering friends and relatives also use this app. Messages, photos, audio recordings and phone calls are flowing between ToC members and their contacts.
There were several questions about the use of the cloud and actually how to store documents there. Michael showed how a document attached to an email can be stored on a local laptop/desktop, and then uploaded to the cloud. For example on Windows we use File Explorer to copy documents in PDF format into a special folder called OneDrive which is Microsoft's cloud. Then this document is accessed on a mobile phone using the OneDrive app. Similar special folders are available on Windows for Google's cloud (Gdrive) and Apple's iCloud. Equivalent cloud folders can be accessed using Finder on a MacBook which allow iCloud documents to be accessed via an iPhone and iPad. We noted that photos taken on mobile phones of both types are typically automatically stored in the respective clouds. This provides secure storage for your photos and allows you to easily share them with others.
