Meeting 1: 30 March 22

Outcomes

Michael and Bill who had organised the first meeting were delighted to see a much larger turnout than expected. We started with Michael outlining the reasons behind calling residents together to start sharing knowledge about mobile phones. We started on the practical work by people joining their mobile phones to the ToC mobile wi-fi hotspot specially purchased to support these events. The little black Pocket Wi-Fi modem can just be seen on the window ledge just behind the lady in the top right. While mobile phone signal strength throughout Cypress Gardens is poor the best appears signal is from Vodafone so the Pocket Wi-Fi uses a Vodafone SIM.

Fairly quickly Michael and several helpers in the audience managed to help 15 mobile phones to connect, but with larger numbers of people than expected we ran up against the 15 connection limit. Nevertheless we were then able to move on to access the Tech over Coffee web site. A lot of the audience needed a little help locating their browser apps and typing in the site address: bit.ly/techovercoffee. The Pocket Wi-Fi was able to support those 15 people accessing the site shown at the right. We spent the remainder of the meeting looking through the various sections of the site including Meeting notes, meeting calendar, and collections of Stories, Articles and some anecdotes from the pen of our prolific author Bill.
