Lateral C-spine. For the lateral C-spine, a couple of changes were made that are different from what was dictated on the project scope. The project scope mentioned doing the lateral C-spine with no grid at a 72-inch SID because that should be equal to an AP C-spine.
After looking closer at the proportional anatomy chart, the group noticed an asterisk with some essential information. The asterisk mentioned that “non-grid technique will equal AP at 40 inches”.
With that new information, the group decided it would be best to do a cross-table lateral using no grid with a 40-inch SID and a perpendicular beam. The technique used would be the same as the AP C-spine which is a 74 kVp with a 6.3 mAs which resulted in a DI value of -0.4.
Lateral C-Spine* = AP C-Spine
*If lateral is done at 72" FFD, but non-grid, technique will equal AP at 40" grid. Otherwise, adjustments must be made for distance or grid changes.
Referenced Technique: AP C-Spine = 74kVp 6.3mAs DI: 0.4
Final Attempt #1: AP Pelvis = 74kVp 6.3mAs DI: -0.4
Begin with an optimal technique for a AP C-Spine.
Use optimal technique for AP C-Spine for Lat. C-Spine.
Shoot first attempt (Result: in range: -0.4).
