REFLECTIVE PIECE ABOUT MY UNIVERSITY LEARNING EXPERIENCE.
On gaining admission to the University of Ghana, I went through some processes which I almost gave up but with determination and discipline I came out victorious. I was denied the Medical Laboratory Science program, later I was given admission to read Biological Sciences. Then, orientation for freshmen had already ended so I had fair knowledge about the school. Since I got late admission, I didn’t get the opportunity to apply for residence in any of the halls since it was late. The very first day I came to campus I was stranded since I had no idea about what to do and where to go but on my way to the Physics laboratory for registration, I met a friend who was also offering Biological Sciences. That was where I networked with him. It was at that point that I understood how many responsibilities go along with attending university. Everything was intended to be completed independently, and I was just learning about Sakai and MIS Web, which also needed to be completed at the department, but I was able to get assistance and complete everything. Level 100 wasn’t easy for me since I was coming from home to school, and I had no time to study for myself which affected my academics one way or the other. Began lectures with some stressful days, but I made it. I had no friends, which made it difficult for me to gather information. In level 100 second semester, the school had to be closed due to a sudden outbreak of a new virus (COVID-19) that was known to be contagious because the number of cases kept rising day in and day out. The school opted to keep using Google Teams, Zoom, as well as its student portal, for online learning as the weeks drew closer (Sakai). This new strategy was a little difficult for me because my internet connection was giving me trouble. Daily news seems depressing; there was no indication that students would be going back to class. I suppose I was happy since I got to spend a lot of time with my family, and it was enjoyable. That era was when I got to learn how to operate Microsoft word and PowerPoint presentations.
When the school reopened a year later, we were given access to a six-week modular study schedule. Imagine having to complete thirteen (13) weeks' worth of activities in just six (6) weeks. Although this was the worst semester, I still gave it my all.
After level 100, my experience was still not excellent, but at level 200, I was introduced to new topics and gained more knowledge about the particular courses we were assigned to. I also met some new acquaintances and fared well in terms of current knowledge and the system. I was privileged to be the class representative for my colleagues. This was where I equipped some communication skills and interactive skills. I was accommodating enough to help my colleagues in their academic journey. I also learnt how to be analytical in solving problems, innovative and positive in dealing with pertinent issues and thus far it's been amazing.
God has been wonderful to me, and my third year on campus has been a better, fluffier experience. I am capable of overcoming every obstacle in my path while maintaining optimism. The university has truly changed the game. I would say that I learned to collaborate closely with strangers, tolerate and relate to a variety of people from all backgrounds, and feel the need to catch up on classes and assignments, at the very least. The tertiary institution has given me abilities I didn't know I needed as well as some enjoyable side activities like sports, hall week celebrations, and dinner. I credit my university experience for helping me become more confident doing things on my own and for improving my ability to make decisions.
REFECTIVE SUMMARY OF MY EXPERIENCES IN THE UNIVERSITY OF GHANA
REFLECTIVE SUMMARY OF A STORY
BOOK TITLE AND AUTHOR: IT ENDS WITH US – COLLEEN HOOVER.
It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover has to be one of my favourite fictional romance books of all time. It Ends with Us is a book that follows a girl named Lily who has just moved and is ready to start her life after college. Lily then meets a guy named Ryle and she falls for him. As she is developing feelings for Ryle, Atlas, her first love, reappears and challenges the relationship between Lily and Ryle.
The amount of strength that Lily shows throughout the book is truly inspiring. This story is told only from Lily’s perspective, and I loved this aspect. It Ends with Us allows you to experience and feel everything that Lily goes through, and it makes for a gut-wrenching book that will make you laugh, smile, and cry. Something that I appreciated within this book was the powerful and impactful message that is normally not discussed. I did not expect to be impacted and touched by the book as much as I did.
In African society, we are made to believe that marriages are meant to work no matter what and comparing what lily went through after marrying Ryle gave me a picture of what most marriages in our setting look like. Abuse is something that isn’t spoken about often and most women tend to stay in abusive marriages just so society will accept them. The lesson I picked up from this story is never to make an excuse for someone who constantly abuses you. Run as fast as you can from any form of abuse
