MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
I began my journey as a university student in the year 2019 to pursue a Bachelor of Science offering Food Science single major. I have an aim of completing a good class and learning something that will be part of my life and has made quite a few friends also. This journey hasn’t been an easy one I must say, have experienced good and bad days which has thought me a great lesson. Amidst these I have been able to combine lab reports, Assignments and class schedules, attending seminars organized on campus.
Within these three years, I have learnt how to express myself, gained confidence and make some connections with people and I believe this will go a long round to help me in the future.
As said earlier although the journey hasn’t been an easy one, I’m still working towards achieving my goal of gaining a good class by the time of completion
A REFLECTIVE SUMMARY OF A NOVEL "MINUTES OF GLORY" BY NGUGI THIONG'O.
Set in Kenya, the story considers matter-of-factly the abuse of a black woman, Wanjiru, (by some men) in her pursuit to gain financial independence to live her dream life. Again, it highlights the consequences of rural-urban migration and colonization on African culture.
Why I Chose to Read Minutes of Glory
Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o a pan-African writer whose literary works are thought-provoking and inspire me.
Lessons Learnt:
The quest for financial independence must be done such that it does not put one’s life at risk. Thus, a rural dweller could be as industrious as a city dweller if the former is gainfully employed; migrating to urban areas does not necessarily confer improved economic status on a person. Again, we must cherish African values; we should not copy blindly elements of the Western culture which could spell doom for us.
